Garcia stops Dolan in round three

Garcia was looking to knock out Emma Dolan. These weren't casual shots, she wasn't trying to take this one to points. You seldom see a female boxer looking to knock someone out. It's a really rare thing. You don't see this in our business.

You wouldn't be blamed for thinking that Garcia was the younger fighter by 17 years based off the intensity, aggression and bravery of her peformance.

Fantastic stuff from the veteran from Mexico City.

If you'd have said to me before the contest it would end in the third round and Emma Dolan would get knocked down by three perfect shots I'd have said not a chance. That's not even slightly the result I thought would happen.

Where did Garcia's power come from, because I have no clue how that's happened.

Absolutely the correct decision there to throw in the towel. It could have been stopped after the third knockdown.

    Emma Dolan looks distraught.

Irma Garcia's corner have been in a confident mood all week. Now we know why.

    And it's over!

No messing about from Garcia, who continues to hunt Dolan down before Dolan's team threw in the towel.

She would have loved the knockout, but judging from her immediate celebrations, the southpaw won't lose sleep over it.

    Garcia v Dolan

Dolan is down for a third time! She was up quicker than she was in round two - but this is not looking good for the Brit.

Oh wow. Some huge gasps from the crowd as Emma Dolan hit the canvas that first time.

She looked stunned again after the second. Her corner have a real job to do here.

I tell you what, she did well to survive. That was incredible, she managed to get up from the second one, a stunned right hook that came from nowhere.

    Emma's legs were gone.

And she is down again! I wasn't sure if Dolan would make the count, but the 27-year-old is back up and survives the business end of round two.

    Disaster round for Dolan.

Cagey round. But I think Emma might at some point need to get close and make it ugly. She might need to win it ugly.

Garcia is an awkward southpaw. She stands up straight and that long lever is a hard one to get away from.

    Garcia v Dolan

A fairly calculated opening round from both fighters, as challenger Dolan maintains her distance from the slightly more aggressive Garcia.

Neither committed too much in those first two minutes, but the perhaps the 44-year-old would just edge it.

Veteran Irma Garcia looks equally confident in her ring walk, with flags of her native Mexico spotted in the crowd.

    Let's get going.

  16. Who is Emma Dolan?published at 19:16 BST 5 April

It's raw talent versus experience on show tonight. Emma Dolan made her debut in 2021 and this'll be her ninth fight. Irma García is preparing for her 32nd sanctioned bout.

The unbeaten British and Commonwealth champion hails from Norwich.

Norfolk has not had a world champion since Herbie Hide stopped American Michael Bentt in seven rounds at Millwall's Den stadium 32 years ago.

"The first ever female world champion from Norfolk, that's crazy, isn't it - it's mad," Dolan told BBC Sport in February.

"I'm going to do it, I'm going to bring the belt back and then we're all going to have a big party."

Irma Garcia's IBF super-flyweight title is on the line tonight.

The Mexican is a two-weight world champion having won the WBA bantamweight title way back in 2013. The 44-year-old took the IBF super-flyweight title off Stephanie Silva in 2023 and is making her second defensive of it in London tonight.

She's up against Emma Dolan, the Commonwealth and British champion with an unblemished 8-0 record, 17 years younger than Garcia.

Who knows where this bout will head? It's almost 12 months since either fighter last stepped into the ring.
