Matthew Stafford and Caleb Williams are at opposite ends of their NFL careers, but both have enjoyed superb seasons.

LA Rams quarterback Stafford has enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his 17-year career, throwing a mammoth 4,707 yards and at least 12 more touchdowns than any other QB during the regular season.

His passer rating is the best in the NFL, but a second Super Bowl ring is the only thing Stafford cares about. He'll turn 38 the day before Super Bowl LX.

Chicago Bears signal-caller Caleb Williams was just seven years old when Stafford made his NFL debut.

After a tough rookie season, in his sophomore year the 24-year turned the Bears from a 5-11 team to 11-6 division winners.

Now that he is being properly protected in the pocket, Williams has shown he can mix it with the stars he idolised growing up.

Here in Chicago for the game after flying from the UK yesterday. Minus 7 Celsius in the stadium. Do they do Bovril here?!

    Kev, Chicago/Middlesbrough

Hoping for a more entertaining game between the Bears and Rams after that viewing (and a Bears win on top of that)

    Georgia, Devon

Oh I dunno Georgia. There's still something beautiful about defences pulverising the opposition in heavy sleet!

    Caleb Williams is picked!

The Bears go for it on 4th&2, but Williams overcooks a deep pass down the middle and Cobie Durant intercepts at the two-yard line.

It was looking like a great start for the Bears...

Caleb Williams and his Cardiac Bears are known as the comeback kings of the season, but Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams showed they can win it late too after surviving a scare in Carolina last weekend.

Two of the NFL's best offenses meet in Chicago, as Matthew Stafford's Los Angeles Rams face Caleb Williams' revitalised Chicago Bears.

Stafford has enjoyed a monster season, but snowy and windy conditions in Illinois could work against him, star receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, and running back Kyren Williams.

After starting the season 0-2, Williams led the Bears to nine wins in their next 10 games and the NFC North title.

Chicago don't know when they are beaten - last week's comeback victory against divisional foes Green Bay was a timely reminder of their Championship calibre.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, speaking to ESPN:

"I'm proud of the guys, battling the elements. This is New England, we want to embrace it, and we have all season long.

"Props to our defence - they played a hell of a game. We've got to protect the football better but we made enough plays to win it.

"It's easier [to get over turnovers] when you are still winning. That's what I kept reminding the guys: 'Look at the scoreboard'. In the end we made enough plays, and our defence helped us out a lot.

"They bring it every week - they are great at the front and at the back."

It will be a long off-season for CJ Stroud. The Texans have to evaluate Stroud's play.

You're the CEO of a company, but the owner is going to look at you every now and again and go 'am I putting the right people around you, and am I getting what I need out of you?'

This loss will bother them and linger. Not that it happened, but how it happened.

  15. Pats extend home runpublished at 23:24 GMT 18 January

FT: Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots

The Patriots have extended their NFL record with a ninth straight Divisional Round win at home - showing that even without Brady and Belichick they're still such a tough team to beat on their own patch.

CJ Stroud was full of mistakes, but a lot of them came from the constant pressure the New England defence put on him - and for the Patriots to stand out like that in a game where Houston's defence were also playing shows just how impressive they were.

  16. FT: Pats advance to AFC title gamepublished at 23:21 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots

This is sweet for the Patriots as they line up in victory formation to put the seal on this crazy, crazy win where defence was elite by both teams, mistakes were plentiful by both offences but where Drake Maye just provided enough spark to get the job down.

After back-to-back 4-13 seasons, Mike Vrabel has produced a stunning turnaround to go 14-3 in the regular season, win two home play-off games and now they'll head to Denver for next week's AFC Championship game.

And they'll face a Broncos side without star quarterback Bo Nix as well....

  17. No good for Houstonpublished at 23:18 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots - fourth quarter

CJ Stroud has one last throw deep down field and it looks like Xavier Hutchinson has caught it just outside the end zone but the ball squirmed loose and that's the ball game!

Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The Patriots will definitely be favourites against Denver in the AFC Championship game.

Their defence has really solidified in this second half. Yes, the conditions have benefited them. If this game started now, the score would be 12-0 or something like that.

  19. Pats puntpublished at 23:15 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots - fourth quarter

The Patriots punt it away and Houston right away complete a couple of passes to get up near midfield.

It looks like their wait to make a very first Conference Championship game will go on - they're the only team not to play in one yet but they're getting closer.

  20. Two-minute warningpublished at 23:12 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 16-28 New England Patriots - fourth quarter

No time outs left for Houston so New England let the clock run down to the two-minute warning, and they'll have a third and 10 when we return on their own 39.

I don't think it matters too much if they get it or not but if they do convert that will be that.

Either way it looks like the Patriots will be off to their 16th AFC Championship game, their first since the 2018 season and their first without Bill Belichick and Tom Brady since 1996.

Is this the rebirth of the NFL's ultimate dynasty?
