Image source, Getty ImagesJust two plays after picking off CJ Stroud New England hand the ball right back with that Drake Maye fumble just as he was diving for a first down.
Now the Texans have it just outside the red zone and looking good for points. Defences well on top after one.

Wow! Drake Maye is moving forward running the ball but it gets punched out of his grasp by Tommy Togiai, who also then recovers the football to regain possession immediately in a dangerous position on the Patriots 27.
Just like last week the Houston defence is trying to take over this game and bail out CJ Stroud who also struggled with turnovers last week.

The call is upheld and Drake Maye is able to bring his Patriots offence back on the field.
Still quite stinky conditions in Foxborough not making things easy - that's not really an excuse for that CJ Stroud throw though.

The early indications are we aren't seeing a 60-point game. I don't think it will take 35 points to win a game like this.
This is a game played in the trenches - it's wet. It's going to be very sloppy football.

Image source, Getty ImagesWonderful effort from Carlton Davis as he takes a diving catch for an interception from a wonky throw by CJ Stroud that was miles off target.
The TV folks will just check it but it looks like he got his knee down just in bounds - unbelievable skill from Davis.

Unreal catch by Jayden Higgins right at the first-down marker. NIck Chubb does the rest from a yard to get the first down.
Dalton Schultz is out of the game right now with a calf injury and he's CJ Stroud's top target so that'll be tough.

The Houston defence strikes back! Danielle Hunter, who has been a complete menace all season, wins his battle and then hits Drake Maye just as he's about to throw and he causes a fumble.
The ball bounces and skids along the wet turf, with several players trying and failing to gather it before the Patriots finally recover it just before their own end zone.
Being on third down that's the end of that drive as New England have to punt it away leaving Houston with a healthy field position start around midfield.

That was a fine response from CJ Stroud after going behind, and there's no blame on him that they had to settle for three and not seven.
Drake Maye is back out there to try and do something again against this defence.

Image source, Getty ImagesPatriots head coach Mike Vrabel can make NFL history this season as he could become the first person ever to win a Super Bowl as a player and head coach with the same team.
Vrabel is just the seventh man to become head coach of a team he won the Super Bowl with as a player - but none of the previous six managed to win a ring as a head coach.
Can Vrabel be the first to do it?

Image source, Getty ImagesThere’s a little girl on X who has correctly predicted every loser in the play-offs so far… hoping the Patriots break that curse before my Bears play later because she picked the Bears (not that I’m superstitious or placing the fate of football outcomes on a child..)

Pats know that win this and they'll be at Levi's Stadium for SB 60

Ka'imi Fairbairn makes no mistake from just 25 yards out but DeMeco Ryans won't be happy with that penalty that cost his side a touchdown.
Turnovers are key in the play-offs but not far behind is the penalty count, you can't beat yourself in the post-season.

Rookie running back Woody Marks runs in a touchdown from two yards but there's a penalty on Houston to chalk that one off and pushes them back five yards.
That's a huge penalty that costs them four points as on the next play CJ Stroud can't find a receiver so the field goal unit comes out.

It's snowing but when it touches you, it turns into a wet slickness.
You can see it's definitely affecting the players.
Houston Texans 0-7 New England Patriots - first quarter
Dalton Schultz is left all alone by the Patriots defence and it's almost slow motion as he strides down the sideline for a full 42 yards before he's finally knocked out of bounds inside the Patriots 30.
Houston Texans 0-7 New England Patriots - first quarter
CJ Stroud is almost picked off as Carlton Davis gets the inside track on Houston receiver Jayden Higgins and probably should've done a bit better - although Higgins got his hand in there to play a bit of defence.

As good as this Houston defence is, you can use their aggressiveness against them.

Statement made! Drake Maye fires a ball over the middle for DeMario Douglas who steams away for a 28-yard touchdown.
That's a fourth receiving touchdown for Douglas but more importantly that's a massive statement of intent from both Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye - who have shown they're not scared of the big bad Texans defence.
Shout out to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as well, who on fourth and one could have gone for a simple run or a QB sneak but instead trusted Maye to get the ball out quickly and place it exactly where his receiver needed it to be.
And it was a dart.

Image source, Getty ImagesFourth and one against this Texans defence and instead of going for a field goal the Pats are making a statement going for it...
Houston Texans 0-0 New England Patriots
Rhamondre Stevenson breaks off for a big 20-yard run for the Patriots. Getting a run game going will be key tonight given the two defences and also the weather - it's how teams try to show their dominance.
So that's a good run from Stevenson, with the Texans having almost as much trouble tackling him as I have speling his first name.
