Summary

  1. Interception! Four for Stroudpublished at 21:35 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 10-21 New England Patriots - second quarter

My word! CJ Stroud is picked off for a fourth time in the half, as Carlton Davis grabs his second interception of the game to grab possession back for the Patriots.

Stroud threw eight interceptions all regular season - and he's had four already tonight!

The Texans haven't been able to gain anything. They've only had one big play and it set up a field goal.

This has been a struggle. The Patriots defence is growing stronger with every single turnover.

They are feeling the energy from the fans in Foxborough.

  3. Two-minute warningpublished at 21:33 GMT 18 January

CJ Stroud just showing some signs of life as we take a break before the end of the half. Some points here would be nice as Houston will receive the second-half kick-off as well.

A desperate CJ Stroud heaves a deep ball to Christian Kirk, who is nowhere near catching it but Carlton Davis has a tug on his jersey and that gives Houston a much-needed 20-yard penalty.

A bit soft for me that one but it was just what Houston needed.

Great throw and what a catch from Stefon Diggs for his fifth career play-off touchdown to put the Patriots in charge of this one.

Diggs has a Texans defender either side of him but it's a perfect throw from Maye into a tight windoe for Diggs to show just how strong his hands are but holding on to a ball that had plenty of zip on it.

The former Houston may puts New England up by 11.

  6. All about Bouttepublished at 21:23 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 10-14 New England Patriots - second quarter

The first big play we've seen for a while comes from New England as Drake Maye hits Kayshon Boutte for a 25-yard gain.

A rare sighting of some offence comes from these two, as Maye hits Boutte again for 18 to get inside the Houston 10.

  7. Stroud strugglingpublished at 21:21 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 10-14 New England Patriots - second quarter

Houston keep the ball for just 21 seconds as the constant flow of pressure on CJ Stroud proves just too much - he's almost brought down in the end zone for a safety, almost fumbles then is almost picked off.

The Texans will quite happily punt as it's a nervous watch now looking at Stroud with the ball.

Mike Vrabel has been saying he does not want to hear any more about Texans number one defence. He knows what his Patriots defence is capable of.

The amount of times CJ Stroud is being hit is concerning.

CJ Stroud gets hit yet again on the first play of the drive, and the ball again floats dangerously into the air, but this time it drops to the deck with a Patriots defener getting their hands on it.

    Stroud needs to settle, quickly.

Houston's sideline is stunned by all these CJ Stroud turnovers, but don't forget the defence they've got in this team and they sack Drake Maye and force a quick three and out.

They really are a top unit but they're doing a lot of heavy lifting so far, and even this defence needs some sort of help from the offence, even just to chew up some clock and give them a breather.

Let's see what Stroud can do.

  11. Another turnover! Stroud picked off againpublished at 21:13 GMT 18 January

It's happened again! The Patriots defence is just playing lights out stuff right now as they get a third turnover of the game with CJ Stroud intercepted for the third time.

It's not really Stroud's fault this one, yes the pass is a little high for Xavier Hutchinson but he gets two hands on it but only tips it up into the air and it's caught by Craig Woodson.

CJ Stroud gets an instant chance for redemption now, and moves the chains early with a 12-yard pass to Xavier Hutchinson.

  13. touchdown

Wow! First play after the punt ans CJ Stroud is pressured into making a dangerous throw that sails right into the arms of Marcus Jones who then races it back 26 yards for a touchdown.

That's so poor from Stroud - you don't want to be too hard on him because it's a tough gig playing away from home in the play-offs, but you simply can't lob that ball up there into a crowded middle of the field just because he's got a free rusher charging at him.

He's got options, try a pump fake, simply protect himself and take the sack, throw it miles away out of bounds or dump it down on the ground - the one thing you can't do is what Stroud just did.

  14. Patriots puntpublished at 21:03 GMT 18 January

Houston Texans 10-7 New England Patriots - second quarter

Drake Maye hoists a deep ball to Kyle Williams, who beats his man Kamari Lassiter but just can't gather the ball so the Patriots have to punt.

I love how defensive backs like Lassiter run away celebrating when they were well beaten by the receiver's route.

The Patriots are behind here but they have history on their side as they've won eight Divisional Round games in a row, which is the longest winning run in this round in NFL history.

New England are also 24-5 at home in the play-offs all time, which is the best record of any team to have played at least 10 home games in the post-season.

Only one team can better their 24 home wins in the play-offs, and that's the San Francisco 49ers who have 26.

Right then Drake Maye, the MVP shouts have just died down a bit inside Gillette Stadium after his second fumble of the day ended up costing his side seven points.

It's a decent start as Maye rushes eight yards on third down to move the chains as he beats the pressure of the Houston pass rush.

Go Texans! Surely the underdog again. Away games are won through the D, and NE will struggle to recover if Ryan’s SWARM dominates the first couple of quarters.

Bo Nix's injury will make Denver underdogs [in the AFC Championship game]. It's hard to believe that even if Houston sneaks this, that they will be favourites on the road in Denver. But the drop off without Bo Nix is so significant.

  19. touchdown

Houston Texans 10-7 New England Patriots - second quarter

CJ Stroud still has a target or two though, including last week's star receiver Christian Kirk who takes in the touchdown pass that gives Houston their first lead of the day.

I don't think that was the very best throw from Stroud as it was a little behind Kirk and if Marcus Jones had turned his head around he was in a great position to defend it or even pick it off, but he was too focused on Kirk.

The Texans take full advantage of the Tommy Togiai forced fumble.

Houston resume with a tush push type play to convert a first down - and yep I still hate that play.

Then Woody Marks with a nice little gain on a screen gets them inside the 10. Houston have to get creative here as Nico Collins and now Dalton Schultz are missing and they're CJ Stroud's top two red zone targets.
