President Bola Tinubu don give national honour and recognitions to pro-democracy activists wey fight against military dictatorship and di substainability of di modern democracy in Nigeria.

For im nationwide broadcast to celebrate 27th Democracy Day on Friday, Tinubu announce national awards to 51 Nigerians.

Among di awardees na, General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua wewy dem rename di Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, to General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology to honour in name.

Di president also award lawyers, journalists, and retired military officers and pro-democracy activist, wey fight for Nigeria democracy.

"I dey happy too to announce national awards to di following Nigerians wey suffer persecution, endure shame, exile, prison, and sometimes solitary confinement, so we fit get democracy today," di president tok.

"Fellow Nigerians, 27 years ago, many doubt say democracy go survive for here becos of our diversity. Today, na our sustain our democracy. Di road wey dey front no easy. But June 12 go remind us: Nigerians no dey break. We fit bend, we fit bleed, but we no go break."

During im speech on Democracy Day, June 12, 2026, Tinubu also highlight wetin im administration don achieve in di last three years.

Tinubu explain say as a result of dia trainning wit foreign military counterparts to target terrorists centres for Borno state terro-related deaths don drop by 81% since 2015.

President Bola Tinubu tok say democracy suppose reflect di quality of life pipo dey live in terms of opportunities for youth, farmers, enterpreneurs and Nigeria workers.

Reform in di petroleum and power sector

President Bola tinubu tok say dem don increase energy supplies and stop di heavy reliance on petrol importation becos of di capacity of local refineries.

Di president tok say wen im take ova power in 2023, di power sector dey face, low power generation, unreliable gas supply, and transmission infrastructure wey dey too weak for power to dey stable.

"Dis result in a sector wey dey generate less than 13,500 Megawatts capacity, e dey transmit less dan wetin e dey generate, distribute less dan wetin e transmit and e dey collect revenue far below wetin dey needed to sustain am," di president tok.
