  1. 'Cheap' energy company puts prices up by 13%published at 10:02 BST 17 August 2018

A council-owned energy firm which claims it's a force for social good and that it offers Bristolians cheap energy bills has just put its prices up by 13%.

The move by Bristol Energy has sparked a fiery response from the boss of a competitor, who says the company is doomed to fail and will cost taxpayers millions of pounds.

Dale Vince, who owns Ecotricity, said "it's bonkers people in Bristol are subsidising cheap energy for people living elsewhere in the country".

He added its business model of enticing customers on cheap deals "was not sustainable".

But Peter Haigh, managing director of Bristol Energy, said: “We should admire Bristol for being visionary.

"Councils are facing tough times, which is exactly why the city council set up an energy company, to help provide extra funds for the city.

"We’re on track to start paying back by 2021, and the more people that join us the sooner we’ll get there. We are part of the solution," he added.

  6. Cipriani: 'I am truly sorry'published at 08:14 BST 17 August 2018

    BBC Radio Jersey

England rugby star Danny Cipriani has admitted he was "wrong" to argue with a bouncer at a Jersey nightclub on Wednesday.

The Gloucester fly-half was fined £2,000 after pleading guilty to common assault and resisting arrest in Jersey's Magistrates Court on Thursday.

In a statement on Twitter, the 30-year-old said he reacted in the "wrong manner" for "a matter of seconds".

Jersey Magistrates Court heard the rugby player tried to grab a body camera off a doorman at the Royal Yacht nightclub and later, whilst resisting arrest, left a female police officer with bruises on her bicep and red marks on her neck.

Cipriani said he was "initially confused" why he was being detained by officers and tried to hold them off, adding, "I didn't strike anyone or initiate aggression in any way".
