  2. Sara remembers her late grandfather on Rememberance Daypublished at 11:42 GMT 11 November 2025

Sara paused to recognise the two minute silence for Remembrance Day.

Later, she spoke to Vernon Kay and reflected on the legacy of her late grandfather, who was posted in Italy during World War 2.

"We used to march every Remembrance Sunday and Grandad would be very proud with his medals on. Vincent Fulford. Quite the chap, he was. My Mum's Dad. He fought in Italy, he was an ambulance driver, caring for the injured and the dying, many of his pals amongst them. Just trying to get people to safety."

Sara continued: "It's always an important day for me. We stopped on a beautiful bit of moorland to observe the silence and look out at the skies and the treetops in the distance... We have a lot to be grateful for."

"It's really important to mark it... it puts it into perspective. It's only a bit of rain, eh? What's a bit of rain!"

And the donations? This total is ridiculous so far. Thank you so much to everyone who's chipped in a fiver, a tenner, even 20. Thank you, thank you.

When I spoke to Scott and he gave me the latest total, I was gazelle-like after that... for about eight seconds, and then I retrudged.

    Sara Cox
BBC Radio 2's Great Northern Marathon Woman

I'm all over the place, if I'm honest. It's a real rollercoaster. I'll have two minutes where I'm like, "Come on, this is fine, let's do it," and I'm singing, "Oh, what a beautiful morning" as the icy rain splatters against my face. And then two minutes later, I'm like, "I can't do this. What's happening?"

So yeah, I am all over the shop, but, you know, we'll just keep ploughing on. Everybody donating just makes a massive difference and puts a spring in my step.

  9. Where is Wolsingham?published at 10:47 GMT 11 November 2025

Sara's destination today is one of the first market towns in County Durham, known for its scenic routes through forests, moorlands and along the banks of the River Wear.

From the Victorian era to 1984, it was home to a major ironworks, and continues to host the Wolsingham Agricultural Society annual show, a tradition that dates back to 1763.

It's served by the heritage Weardale Railway, an independently owned British single track branch line.

I've got to confess. For the last little stretch, I've put on a little bit of Stormzy and Chase and Status - 'Backbone' - and I've powered along for the last 200 yards. That was my training song.

  12. How is Sara getting Pudsey... to Pudsey?published at 10:30 GMT 11 November 2025

Sara with her back turned to the camera, wearing the Pudsey backpack.

As mentioned, a special Pudsey backpack will accompany Sara throughout the next few days, as she aims to deliver him to the town in West Yorkshire that shares his name.

Sara will be carrying the Pudsey backpack, that was specially made for this challenge. It can be worn on her back or on her front.

Sara has said that before starting her challenge, she had a practice in her local park, running around with the Pudsey backpack, joking that she "looked like a weirdo... but he's lovely".

Pudsey has her back the whole way through! At least he's very lightweight...

  14. Soup and sausage rolls...published at 10:15 GMT 11 November 2025

Anna Hindmarsh from the Whitley Chapel Young Farmer's Association spoke to Vernon Kay this morning from the Travellers Rest pub in Slaley.

She told Vernon how they had raised £400 with a charity bonfire in aid of Children In Need.

    Quote Message

We had our bonfire night and firework night. We sold soup, hot sausage rolls, obviously had the fireworks, we managed to raise £400 pounds. We thought when Sara's making such a massive effort to make such a lot of money for Children in Need, we needed to do our bit, so we decided we'd choose Children in Need as our charity this year.

    Gabby Logan
    Television and Radio Presenter

Sara Cox, I am in awe. You are incredible, this is the challenge of a lifetime. I cannot believe you are doing back-to back-marathons, from Kielder Forest to Pudsey for Children in Need. An incredible cause ,you are going to raise so much money, it’s going to be off the charts.

The chaffing? Let's keep that to a minimum! Let’s keep the spirit and the positivity right up here, because the whole nation is behind you.

I'm going to be thinking of you every step of the way. I might even run a 5k a day while you're doing it, just to be with you in spirit. Best of luck and see you at the other side!

  18. Sara feeling like the 'Tin Man'published at 09:50 GMT 11 November 2025

    Sara Cox
BBC Radio 2's Great Northern Marathon Woman

It's grim right now. It's really grim and it's hard because it's uphill. It goes down and then up hill again, and it's so hard just to get warm and get all the blood flowing to the bits that need it.

I'm just like the Tin Man. Because as soon as I stop, everything tenses up again. The rain is driving down, the wind is icy. You just can't quite get going, it's just hill after hill.

It's just hard today to get a rhythm.
