    Jamie Laing
    Radio 1's Ultra Marathon Man

Greg, I am broken. I can hardly move my legs. Not even joking, the worst day yet. I know I keep saying that.

I have ulcers all over my tongue and I don't know why.

My right knee is totally blown up, I can hardly move my left leg.

I'm going to need some help getting out of bed. I'll see you soon hopefully.

  13. Highlights from Day 4 of Jamie's Ultra Marathon Man challengepublished at 17:55 GMT 20 March 2025

Jamie has completed the penultimate day of his Ultra Marathon Man challenge for Comic Relief, despite the doubt and the pain, he's pushed through and now has only one day and one more ultra marathon left to overcome.

At the start of the day he told Greg he wouldn't give up despite everything in his body telling him to stop "I will do anything not to do this today, but I've got to get this done."

An early total announcement of £331,647 put the spring back in Jamie's step, before Matt Edmondson had a very appealing incentive to get donations up. Earlier in the week, Greg James said he would crush Matt's beloved scooter if donations reached over £75k, and of course the listeners delivered.

Matt has been plotting his revenge ever since and today he decided to get Greg back. His proposed plan for the listeners? Reach over £450k in donations and Greg will have to run alongside Jamie tomorrow in a wedding dress.

Of course, the listeners understood the assignment, reaching over half a million pounds for Comic Relief. Stay tuned tomorrow to see Greg in his matrimonial best.

It's been a day of ice packs, physio and scotch eggs to get him through today - with a little help from one of his good pals JP who rocked up to help motivate Jamie to keep going.

After one ultra marathon your muscles would need some real TLC, so we can't imagine how Jamie's feeling on his fourth. At one point he said it felt like he was running on a broken ankle, so during today's pit stops the physio resorted to taping ice packs to Jamie's ankles to help ease any swelling - amongst working all the other areas in need of relief from so much running.

As Jamie progressed in the afternoon, everyone was concerned he wouldn't make it. At one point he was forced to stop and it was a route full of hills, but he pushed through.

But, despite Thursday being the worst day so far for Jamie... he did it! He made it through his fourth ultra marathon to complete Day 4.

Waiting for him at the finish line at Matlock was Vick and Jerry alongside Jamie's dad. It was a moving, tearjerking bit of radio as Jamie's dad shared just how proud he was of his son for undertaking such a big, frankly ridiculous, challenge.

    Radio 1's Ultra Marathon Man

An absolute roar came from Ultra Marathon Man Jamie as he received the news of this latest total from Vick Hope on Radio 1.

"I was not expecting that, I don't know what I was expecting but I wasn't expecting that.

WOW! WOW! WOW! Thank you to every single person who has donated, to their tooth fairy money, to their pocket money, to their cheques, to schools, to everyone thank you!

You are changing people's lives. Thank you so much. That is awesome!"

  17. How proud is Jamie's dad?published at 17:26 GMT 20 March 2025

"Immeasurably - what an extraordinary achievement he has done. Who thought he would do that? But he's like that, and once he sets his mind to do something, he does it."

"And I've always thought you can sum Jamie up in four words which is 'I can do it', and he doesn't think of the consequences of doing it, but he just is so determined - and he's doing it."

  18. Not a dry eye in the studiopublished at 17:23 GMT 20 March 2025

Jamie was surprised at the finish line by his dad, Nicholas. He shared how he felt watching his son as he strived to complete this gruelling challenge and now we're crying for the 100th time today.

Jamie's dad: "It's awful because there's a conflict of emotion there, because on one hand you see this extraordinary hero - you know who has overcome pain, tiredness, to achieve what he's achieved. And on the other hand he's my son and I, oh I'm going to cry... I just want to hug him."

Jamie: "I've never seen my dad cry. This is the greatest man, he's the greatest person in the world my dad is. He's unbelievable. You're great dad."

  19. Jamie is in floods of tears - one happy, proud, exhausted manpublished at 17:11 GMT 20 March 2025

He's been met at the finish line by his dad, who he didn't realise would be here

    Jamie Laing
    Radio 1's Ultra Marathon Man

Matlock has a lot of hills in it. And the problem is, when you're running downhill it's eight times the pressure on your knees. So I have to walk downhill backwards. Uphill is actually a little bit better.

But I am so happy that one is over. I got told by everyone Wednesday would be the worst. It's all lies. This is the worst.

I'm such a people pleaser too, I was holding up so much traffic and saying sorry to everyone as they were trying to go about their day!
