I’m a huge fan of Radio 1, I’m a huge fan of Jamie and all the other presenters. I find it very inspiring following Jamie’s journey through this ultra marathon. Despite hitting a brick wall yesterday, he still found it in him to keep on running, I find it absolutely incredible.

We've obtained the footage everyone was waiting for - Greg James joining Jamie on the road, donning a wedding dress.

Yesterday, Radio 1 listeners raised enough money - £450k - for Greg to do the forfeit.

The end result is, as you'll be able to see, remarkable.

We’re waiting here at the finish line in Salford - where Jamie Laing’s aiming to finish his challenge later. There are already some people here who want to see the moment he crosses the line.

We know how tough the challenge is though, and we’ve been hearing on air how much he’s battling through.

Radio 1’s playing out over the speakers here too - where we’re hearing Greg James running alongside him in his wedding dress.

  5. In pictures: Jamie's final daypublished at 15:04 GMT 21 March 2025

It's been a long week for Jamie Laing. It must feel like a very long time since he kissed his wife Sophie goodbye and set off on a frankly ridiculous attempt at running five ultra-marathons in five days, a total of 150 miles.

But the end is now in sight. Radio 1's Vick Hope and Jeremiah Asiamah are waiting for him in Salford, along with plenty of fans and well wishers.

But before we get there, let's take a look a look back at the last day of Jamie's epic journey.

Jeremiah Asiamah cries with Jamie Laing about fatherhood on the ultra marathon man challenge

We were taken aback yesterday by a beautiful moment between Jamie and fellow presenter Jeremiah (Jerry) Asiamah.

Jerry has been at the finish line each day for Jamie, cheering him on and giving him advice when he gets into the Radio 1 studio.

Jamie was joined by his dad at the end of Day 4, and he broke down in tears when admitting how "incredibly lucky" he was to have a father by his side. Jerry didn't have a dad in his life, but said Jamie was an incredible role model for young men who didn't have a father in their lives.

Jamie what you're doing is epic. I struggle with anxiety myself, I know what it's like, but this week I've laughed and I've cried, and I know you can do it. £30 donated.

This week has been so inspirational. Jamie is incredible. I cried so many times listening to what he's been through this week. His never-give-up attitude is incredible. I'm willing him on every single step of the way. I've donated twice this week and will do again when he crosses the finish line.

The whole thing feels like a fever dream. I'm currently running with him, at his pace, which I've got to say is really amazing. Genuinely. For running nerds he's doing 6:00/km, still. Day 5.

I'm with the couple of guys here that he's running with, proper long-distance runners looking after him on the road. And they've said they've not seen anything like it, for a non-runner to immediately fall into that sort of speed is crazy. He's just... he's on one!

He's not finished, he's nowhere near the end really in the grand scheme of things. They just told him in the last pit stop that he's got 20 miles to go and his face, he looked like he just couldn't go on anymore.

But I promise you anytime he gets a total, anytime we get any intel I am screaming out the window at him because that is all he cares about, that's all he wants to know. He just wants to know how many people he's helping and how much money is raised.

Following the much anticipated ceremonial gartergobble moment, where Jamie tore the wedding garter off Greg James' thigh with his teeth, the Radio 1 duo are now on the road for the next leg of the Ultra Marathon Man challenge.

  13. So why is Greg running in a wedding dress with Jamie?published at 13:02 GMT 21 March 2025

Greg James in a wedding dress holding a Radio 1 mic while Jamie looks cheered up by his appearance

Why exactly is this happening? Good question.

On Monday, before Jamie set off, Greg James revealed that the day before he started his 'Gregathlon' challenge for Sport Relief, his now-wife Bella Mackie was so scared for him, she proposed.

Jamie then replied: “Are you… proposing to me, Greg?”

And from there unfolded a strange sub-narrative of the week, where Greg agreed to wear a wedding dress while running alongside Jamie, if listeners raised over £450k - which they did.

Greg's now joined Jamie near Stockport to join him for the next leg of his Ultra Marathon - wearing the wedding dress.

“It’s giving Married At First Sight,” Greg says. “It’s giving ‘happiest day of my life'.”

Greg James: I had to get into my dress quickly because, and I just want to tell the listeners this - he's here ahead of time! You're going so quickly!

  19. It's "the biggest day of mine and Jamie's life," says Greg Jamespublished at 12:02 GMT 21 March 2025

    Greg James
    BBC Radio 1 Breakfast host

I'm on the way to the biggest day of mine and Jamie's life, when we finally tell everyone publicly how much we mean to each other, and we run hand in hand off into the distance. I'm his runaway bride!

Jamie actually said to me 'What were you like when you started your challenge back in the day?' [The Gregathlon for Sport Relief back in 2018]. I said to him I was really scared, I was nervous, my friends and family were worried for me. Bella [Greg's wife] was so worried about me that she proposed to me the night before I went and did the challenge. Then Jamie said 'Oh does that mean you're going to propose to me?' So here I am on the way to see him now.

It's very windy today which means that the dress might expose me. It might blow up over my head like Marilyn Monroe. This is by far the toughest day he'll have as his body is screaming at him to stop so that's why we're arranging all these stupid things to make sure he's distracted and has things to look forward to.

  20. The friends Jamie's met along the waypublished at 11:56 GMT 21 March 2025

It's been a big week of tears, friendship and love. And of course... a lot of running.

It's been a huge task of endurance and there's been times when Jamie thought he couldn't make it but just when he needed it most, some pals appeared to give him that boost he needed to push through the pain.

Here's a look back at some of the friends who have surprised Jamie during his Ultra Marathon Man challenge, leaving his face looking like this...

It was an emotional one when Jamie's dad surprised him at the finish line on the fourth day of his challenge. There was not a dry eye in the studio as Nicholas spoke about how proud he was of his son, and how determined he's always been to complete everything he set his mind to.

They've been through a lot together, 15 years of friendship, housemates, and a stint on Made in Chelsea together. Proudlock surprised Jamie on Day 3 when Jamie was really struggling - there were lots of tears and Proudlock was beaming with pride.

We couldn't talk about the support Jamie's received without mentioning his wife Sophie. She's been his rock throughout the challenge, and after hearing how much he was struggling midway through this week she got the next train up to meet him at the finish line. He said listening to their wedding song (Perfect by Ed Sheeran) has got him through some tough runs.

Some of Jamie's biggest support has come from the incredible Radio 1 listeners and members of the public who have come out to cheer Jamie on along his mammoth route from London to Salford. He's said at many points this week that during his lowest moments the thing that has kept him going has been the love and endless motivation from people in the street and the messages from listeners. It's been a real team effort from people all across the UK.
