Famous
around the world for On Ilkla' Moor Baht 'At, the song
which celebrates it and which is now pretty much Yorkshire's
'national anthem', Ilkley Moor looms over the genteel
West Yorkshire town of Ilkley.
Ilkley's been the site of numerous UFO sightings out
on the moor, Jimi Hendrix once played here at the Troutbeck
Hotel, the town is the home of a very famous tea shop,
and an annual literary festival is held here which attracts
some very big names like Benjamin Zephaniah, Jamie Oliver
and Ian Rankin to name but three!
But, it's the moor which it could be argued MAKES Ilkley.
With the Cow
and Calf Rocks, White
Wells perched on top, and all that heather -
it just can't be beaten if you want a true taste of
West Yorkshire!
