New campaign targets non-voters
A vote being placed in a ballot box
The two elections for senators and deputies will be held in the autumn
Jersey is stepping up its campaign to get more people to vote in the forthcoming elections by targeting people at fetes and outdoor film shows.

Blue signs with the words Register, Vote, Count have been placed across Jersey to encourage islanders to register for their vote.

The £35,000 scheme has been designed to get newcomers and young people engaged in the voting process.

It is estimated there are about 20,000 eligible voters who are not registered.

St Clement Constable, Derek Gray, says it is important residents have an opinion about how their island is run.

He says there has been interest in the scheme which is going around events on the island throughout the summer.

Representatives will be at the Gorey Fete this Thursday .

The following day they will be at the film festival at Howard Davis Park.

The 2005 senators election will be on19 October and the election for deputies will be on 23 November.
