Australia named ACT Brumbies backs Tim Atkinson, Mark Bartholomeusz and Julian Huxley in their 12-man squad for the Commonwealth Games sevens tournament.

Atkinson missed the Brumbies' 31-13 Super 12 final defeat by the Canterbury Crusaders last month with injury.

Huxley, meanwhile, played most of the match in place of injured fly-half Stephen Larkham.

Full-back Bartholomeusz has recovered from the injury that kept him out of Australia A's 102-8 win over Canada last week.

Australia won the bronze medal in the inaugural Commonwealth Games sevens tournament in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

"We believe we have put together a team which will be able to challenge for the gold medal," said coach Julian Gardner.

The sevens tournament will be played over the final three days of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester from 2-4 August. The Games begin on 25 July.

Australia squad: Tim Atkinson, Mark Bartholomeusz, Scott Barton, Ed Carter, Richard Graham (captain), Julian Huxley, Peter Hynes, Robert McDonald, Peter Miller, Cameron Pither, Marc Stcherbina, Tim Walsh.
