Diskin sidelined for six months
Matt Diskin
Diskin played only 17 minutes against New Zealand at Hull
Matt Diskin will miss the start of Super League X after damaging knee ligaments on his Great Britain debut.

The Leeds Rhinos hooker was injured after 17 minutes of Saturday's 26-24 win over New Zealand and could be out for as long as six months.

"To say I'm disappointed is a massive understatement but you have to play the cards you are dealt," said Diskin.

"It is a long road back to full fitness but I'm remaining positive and I know I that will receive the best treatment."

Leeds coach Tony Smith added: "We are all bitterly disappointed for Matt especially with the timing of the injury coming on his Great Britain debut.

We will get the injury fixed and he will come back stronger than before
Leeds coach Tony Smith

"It is a real shame for him to end a fantastic year on this note.

"He has received a lot of accolades this season, all of which he richly deserved, but he has taken them all in his stride and developed into an outstanding player.

"He now has to deal with a negative but I am sure he will treat this set back with the same determination and come back in the best way possible.

"We will get the injury fixed and he will come back stronger than before."

Diskin, 22, has made over 100 appearances for the Rhinos since making his debut in 2001.
