Dundee United centre-half Sam Cleall-Harding has joined Dunfermline Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old was limited to 10 appearances with the Scottish Premiership club last season, but seven of those were starts.

Now he joins Neil Lennon's side as they bid for promotion from the Championship.

West Fife is familiar territory for Cleall-Harding, who spent the first half of the 2024-25 season on loan to Kelty Hearts during their first season in League 1.

United manager Jim Goodwin told his club website: "It's a brilliant move for Sam and allows him to go and express himself at a side that is returning off the back of a really strong season.

"We felt it was important this summer to find a club where Sam could go play a run of games and continue his development playing week in, week out."

  4. United sign 'calm and composed' goalkeeper Amissahpublished at 18:46 BST 1 July

    Jordan AmissahImage source, SNS

Former Ross County goalkeeper Jordan Amissah has returned to Scotland to provide a "calm and composed" presence at Dundee United, says manager Jim Goodwin.

The 24-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at Tannadice following his exit from Burton Albion.

Amissah impressed during a six-month spell at County before heading back south of the border. He feels he played his best football in Scotland.

"The conversations I've had with the gaffer and the coaching staff have been really exciting, and I wanted to get started as soon as I could," he said.

"My time at Ross County was probably where I played my best football to date, so a move back north appealed to me, especially with United being such a big club.

"I can't wait to get going in pre-season and see all the fans at Tannadice in a few weeks' time, and hopefully this season will be full of success."

United boss Goodwin added: "He's still a young goalkeeper but has had experience in League One and, importantly, the Scottish Premiership with Ross County.

"He's calm and composed, not only as a player but as a person, and that's important for me."

  5. United return 'massive' for Walton after Preston frustrationpublished at 16:23 BST 1 July

Jack Walton is delighted to renew his love affair with Dundee United on a three-year contract after a frustrating season as second choice goalkeeper with Preston North End.

The 28-year-old Englishman spent two seasons at Tannadice on loan from Luton Town, helping Jim Goodwin's side win promotion then secure a top-six finish.

"A bit frustrated," he told United on YouTube when asked about his time with second-tier Preston.

"I went there as the number two, so I didn't get the football game time, which was a bit strange really having played two seasons nearly every minute to not playing.

"I then realised that this part of my career I want to be on the pitch week in, week out and try to play as many games as possible.

"When I got this opportunity to come back up here, obviously I wanted to get it done.

"To get up here on a permanent and be settled was massive for me and my family.

"We enjoyed it up here. For the football but also because I enjoyed living up here."

Walton admitted that, since leaving, he "would always check" United's results and watch their matches when he could, as well as keeping in touch with some of his former team-mates.

He also revealed that working under "brilliant goalkeeping coach" Paul Mathers again was also a factor in his decision "and hopefully I can carry on where I left off".

Lachlan Rose missed out on the A-League title with Newcastle United Jets

Summer signing Lachlan Rose thinks his hard-working style aligns perfectly with the values of Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin and the city.

The 27-year-old Australian forward arrives after just missing out on the A-League title with Newcastle United Jets.

"I'm super stoked to be here at this wonderful club," Rose told the United YouTube channel. "It's a beautiful city so it was a no-brainer to join this club when the opportunity arose.

"I am a hard working player, so it sort of resembles the way this city is and the people that are here."

Rose had agreed a two-year contract with United at a time when Jets were leading the A-League, but despite ending top of the table, five points ahead of Adelaide United, they lost out in the play-off semi-finals to Sydney after a penalty shoot-out.

"I had to finish off my time in Australia and try to finish on a high there and to come over and get ready for the season," he said.

Rose scored eight goals and provided one assist in his 26 appearances - his best season yet - and said Jets had benefitted from a "family" atmosphere in the dressing-room.

"They are like brothers to me, so for us as a group we did well purely because of that and moving on they were so supportive as a club and all the players were super excited for me to get overseas and join a club like this," he added.

Dylan Tait celebrates with FalkirkImage source, SNS

Dylan Tait has revealed he felt moving to "a massive club" like Dundee United was the right thing for his career after leaving "an amazing team" at Falkirk.

The 24-year-old midfielder revealed there was "interest in me from elsewhere" as his contract ran out with the club who finished one place above United in the Scottish Premiership.

"I had a good couple of seasons at Falkirk and enjoyed my time there," Tait told Dundee United's YouTube channel.

"I couldn't speak too highly of Falkirk; they have been amazing for me and I am buzzing to be at Dundee United.

"It was an amazing team I played in there and we played against Dundee United a few times last season, so I know what I'm coming up against.

"I am just looking forward to helping this team be successful."

Tait played for Raith Rovers, Hibernian, Kilmarnock, Arbroath and Hamilton Academical before moving to Falkirk.

"For my age, I've got a lot of experiences, good and bad, and I think I can help the younger boys in this team especially," he added.

"I already knew [right-back] Miller Thomson from Falkirk, so he kind of made me feel welcome and I already had a mate coming in, which always helps."

  12. Premiership fixtures announced: Key derbiespublished at 16:39 BST 18 June

A new season brings new drama and an opportunity for city rivalries to renew once again.

Despite finishing in the bottom half of the table, both Dundee clubs successfully avoided the drop and will play at least three more derbies in this season's Premiership.

Last term they contested four derbies, United won two, Dundee won one and the other was a draw.

The Dundee pair are the first of the three rivals to meet this term as United host Steven Pressley's side at Tannadice on 22 August. There's a new year meeting at Dens Park on 2 January before another match at Tannadice on 13 March.

On 2 September, it's the turn of Hibernian and Hearts to go head-to-head in the first Edinburgh derby of the season.

Hearts won three out of four Edinburgh derbies last term, including the dramatic post-split game at Easter Road where Hibs, having gone a goal in front early on, found themselves reduced to nine men for almost a full half.

It's Hearts' turn to host on 26 December before another Easter Road meeting in the final pre-split game on 10 April.

The first Glasgow derby of the new campaign is on 20 September at Parkhead. The sides met six times across all competitions last term - Celtic won three, including both the cup matches, while Rangers won one and the other two ended in a draw.

The pair meet at Ibrox on 2 January before returning to Parkhead on 27 February.

Dundee United have signed Northern Irish centre-half Michael Forbes following the 22-year-old's release by West Ham United.

Forbes, who has signed a two-year contract with the Scottish Premiership club holding an option for a further year, has one cap for his country back in 2023 and manager Jim Goodwin believes United can help him "fulfil his potential".

"Michael is a player we've admired for some time," he told his club website.

"He possesses all the attributes you look for in a modern defender. He's physically strong, dominant in the air, comfortable on the ball and has shown real leadership qualities throughout his development.

"For someone still so young, he already has valuable experience at both club and international level and we believe there's significant room for further growth in his game."

Forbes, who can also play at left-back, joined West Ham from Dungannon Swifts in 2020 but failed to break into the first team with the Premier League club after loan spells with Bristol Rovers, Colchester United and Northampton Town.

He made 21 starts and five substitute appearances for Northampton last season as they were relegated after finishing bottom of League One.

Looking forward to "testing myself" in Scotland's top flight, Forbes believes it is "the right move at the right stage of my career" and that United's "ambitions match my own".

  18. Neilson leaves Lommel to take charge at Shenzhen Peng Citypublished at 12:14 BST 5 June

    Robbie NeilsonImage source, SNS

Former Hearts and Dundee United manager Robbie Neilson has joined Chinese Super League club Shenzhen Peng City as head coach after having "a wonderful time" as Lommel SK assistant.

Neilson joined Lommel last summer as assistant to ex-Hibs boss Lee Johnson and the pair led the club to promotion to Belgium's top flight.

Lommel are part of the City Football Group with Shenzhen Peng City and Manchester City among others.

"I have had a wonderful time in Lommel," Neilson told the Belgian side's website.

"The club and the city gave me a very warm welcome and made me feel at home from day one and I am extremely grateful to everyone for that."

Sporting director Jeffrey van As thanked Neilson and said: "Robbie's contract was due to expire and we had been in discussions with him about an extension.

"During those talks, he made it clear that he was keen to return to a head coaching role and he was given that opportunity by Shenzhen.

"Naturally, we are disappointed to see Robbie leave, but we also understand why he wants to take this opportunity."

Neilson, 45, has also managed Tampa Bay Rowdies and MK Dons and takes over a Shenzhen Peng City side ninth in the 2026 Chinese Super League. He replaces Chen Tao, who left last month.

Neilson is reunited with his former Hearts and Dundee United coaching colleague Gordon Forrest, who is assistant at Shenzhen Peng City.
