Alexander Zverev has been in this position in a French Open final before. He was 2-1 up against Carlos Alcaraz in Paris two years ago, but it was the Spaniard who lifted the Coupe des Mousquetaires at the end of the day.

    Is he having flashbacks?

Flavio Cobolli backs up the break.

That looked like Zverev was trying to serve out the tournament there and he was only the first game of the fourth set.

It looked like he got overwhelmed by emotion there.

Zverev's ability to inject more pace in the baseline exchanges proves the difference. Cobolli could not cope and buckled.

Zverev asks for more noise from the crowd, which includes lots of German supporters. They're just a bit quieter than the Italians.

One more set and Zverev will finally earn his first Grand Slam title. And be the first German man to win a major since Boris Becker in Melbourne 30 years ago.

  9. 'Zverev played a bit more offensive'published at 16:46 BST 7 June

Alexander Zverev played a bit more offensive. He got Flavio Cobolli moving, and he was able to do that as he stepped up the court a little bit.

He was attacking that forehand of Cobolli. He started thinking about his gameplan, rather than a Slam.

What a return that is from Flavio Cobolli. The serve looks like it's swerving away from him, but the Italian flicks his racquet and a winner fizzes past Alexander Zverev.

But the world number three comes up with a bit of magic on the next point and Cobolli almost runs into the advertising hoardings as Zverev angles a winner parallel to the net.

After firing long, Flavio Cobolli takes all the pace out of the ball on the next point to lift over a lovely drop-shot volley and leave Alexander Zverev scrambling across court.

But the Italian is punished for not putting away a pass. 30-30.
