A couple of days after a second-round thriller that went to a tie-break in the deciding set, 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka is back in action, taking on American ninth seed Taylor Fritz under the roof on John Cain Arena.

Wawrinka, the Australian Open champion 12 years ago, plans to retire at the end of 2026. This tournament will be his final appearance in Melbourne.

The first set is going with serve, with Fritz serving next at 5-5.

Wawrinka, who has just held to love, had two break points in the seventh game but failed to convert.
