Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk had not won a match on grass since reaching the third round at Wimbledon two years ago but produced a statement performance to overpower Jasmine Paolini 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

Wimbledon had been the only Grand Slam where Kostyuk had not reached the fourth round and she had never contested a WTA Tour-level quarter-final on grass.

However, there was no evidence of those previous shortcomings on the surface here despite the draining mid-afternoon heat.

Winning 11 of the last 14 games to complete victory, she celebrated with a pirouette after dazzling Wimbledon's main stage to confirm her once unlikely title-winning credentials.

  2. First Slam final awaits - but for who?published at 16:33 BST 9 July

Well, that was some match but there is more to come!

The second semi-final on Centre Court today features two rising stars of the women's game perhaps beginning to reach their peak.

Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk broke her Grand Slam semi-final duck by reaching the last-four at Roland Garros this year - and, like London buses, a second one has quickly followed.

But this is new territory for her opponent Linda Noskova, the Czech 21-year-old becoming the youngest Wimbledon semi-finalist in eight years.

Both came through their quarter-finals in straight sets on Wednesday - although Noskova was extended far greater by Elise Mertens than Kostyuk was by Jasmine Paolini.

But neither has reached a Slam final - who will smash that barrier today?

If this is as entertaining as the first semi-final then we are in for a real treat.

    Muchova 6-2 1-6 6-6 (12-10) Gauff

Karolina Muchova, speaking after beating Coco Gauff to reach the Wimbledon final: "It sounds really nice to be in a final. Honestly, was such a big fight. Was a rollercoaster. Was up and down. Match point and then match point down. You don't have time to think.

"It was very nerve-wrecking. I don't even know what I'm saying, I'm shaking and trying to sink it in. The atmosphere here was indescribable, thank you everyone who came and supported us.

On holding her side during the match: "Yeah, I'm okay, I was just trying to catch a breath. I'm good, I'm good."

On it being her first time on Centre Court: "There is so many of us tennis players and not many of us get to play on this court. It is such a history of our sport, so it is very special. We came to warm up here with Linda [Noskova] before the semis so I took a photo, so nice moment to experience this and this court is beautiful."

Could we be set for an all-Czech final?

Since Petra Kvitova won the title in 2011, the winner has hailed from the Czech Republic on a further three occasions.

No other country can beat their four winners in that time.

Karolina Muchova is there already, can Linda Noskova join her?

  8. Game and first set - Heliovaara/Pattenpublished at 16:25 BST 9 July

    Heliovaara/Patten 7-6 (7-2) 1-1 Kokkinakis/Kovacevic*

While that dramatic women's singles semi-final was coming to a conclusion, Great Britain's Henry Patten moved one set closer to appearing in another Wimbledon final - two years after he and Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara won the men's doubles title at SW19.

The first set of their semi-final against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Aleksandar Kovacevic went on serve all the way through to a tie-break, which top seeds Patten and Heliovaara took control of early on and won 7-2.

The winners of this match on Court One will play Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in the final.

It was just incredible drama and it lived up to all expectations.

This is what you want from a Grand Slam semi-final.

We saw spectacular winners and a real rollercoaster ride of emotion.

Coco Gauff left her heart and soul out here. It will be so, so painful for her. I get why she went for the drop shot and it was nip and tuck.

I admired the bravery of Karolina Muchova, she earnt the win, she took the bull by the horns and went for it.

That match tie-break will be talked about for years to come. It had everything.

Karolina Muchova had two match points on her serve, but seized right up and pied a couple of shots well long to hand match point to Coco Gauff - on her serve.

Gauff then seemed certain to finish the match with a forehand as the open court gaped, but planted her shot into the net. It might be the worst miss of her whole Wimbledon career.

Muchova then missed a chance to win as she slipped then the winner was on, but set up another chance with a perfect lob - and finally converted.

    Phew, what a scorcher.

That was one of the best ladies' matches I've seen for a very, very long time. Not just metronomic thumping from the baseline; splendid all-court tennis from both players. A shame someone had to lose, but bravo, Karolina Muchova!

She just didn't come up with the right tactical choice at the crucial moment but it is so cruel.

That was quite the rollercoaster. Both trying to handle the nerves of the moment. Gauff goes off quickly, the disappoint must be big for her.

For Muchova, this has been a long journey. It has all started to come together this year.
