Djokovic looking the fresher of the two in these early stages. He’s 38 but has effectively played two fewer matches in the tournament. Alcaraz needs to find some energy from somewhere.

Novak is looking nigh on perfect here. Could be famous last words but he could win this easily in straight sets, with a performance of all time.

A key difference between them for me is Djokovic can go for broke and if he destroys himself physically c'est la vie and he retires but Alcaraz has a season and career ahead. I think it will allow Djokovic to play a physically freer game.

    Alcaraz 2-4 Djokovic*

A missed opportunity for Novak Djokovic, who hits a forehand long with plenty of space to aim for. That would have brought up three more break points.

Carlos Alcaraz recovers from there to hold serve and stop the rot.

Novak Djokovic breaks into a knowing smile.

He's happy, of course, but realises that break was only the first hurdle with plenty more to come.

The next one was consolidating the break. Job done.

Winning 91% of his first-serve points so far - having landed 79% - has been the key to his fast start.

Since his fantastic win in the semis, I feel the crowd are really behind Novak in this final. Would be lovely to see him lift the trophy for (probably) the last time.

For what feels like the first time, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic take part in a lengthy rally and Djokovic who comes out on top with a powerful forehand that Alcaraz can't get back.

The Spaniard replies with a perfectly played drop shot and moves in front in the game, but a first double fault makes it 30-30.
