And that is almost as comfortable a start as he could have hoped for, as he holds to 15 with a huge ace. The world number one is on his way.

No more long rallies. He'll have bursts where he'll go really toe-to-toe with Carlos Alcaraz, but the rest of the time he'll try and finish the point early.

Regardless of the result, Djokovic is still competitive at the business end of a Slam. Those calling for him to retire need to pipe down and he'll decide when to call it a day. Beating the number two and pushing the number one in the final does the talking for him.
