  1. 'Scoreline a little harsh'published at 13:43 BST

    Sabalenka 6-1 0-0 Kessler*

    Chris Bradnam
    BBC Sport commentator at Wimbledon

I think 6-1 is a little harsh with Kessler's play. That will be really deflating

if Kessler was to rate her performance, she would probably give it a pretty high score, so where does she go from here?

  2. Second deucepublished at 13:43 BST

    Sinner 0-0 Borges*

Not this time for Jannik Sinner, either, as Nuno Borges comes up with another big groundstroke to save break point.

  3. Break point Sinnerpublished at 13:42 BST

    Sinner 0-0 Borges*

Nuno Borges is going to have to save another. Jannik Sinner is sliding (intentionally) around the baseline, showing no nerves after his heavy fall the other day.

    Sabalenka 6-1 0-0 Kessler*

Watching Aryna Sabalenka serve out sets and matches can be, er, fraught sometimes.

That was impressive, though. Big serves when needed and a lovely bit of touch at the net to end it.

McCartney Kessler has, not surprisingly, headed off court for a bit of a reset after that set flew away from her.

  5. Game and first set Sabalenkapublished at 13:41 BST

    Sabalenka 6-1 0-0 Kessler*

Aryna Sabalenka rolls her eyes as a forehand finds the net.

Even playing as well as she has today, Sabalenka always feels there is room for improvement.

The game goes to deuce and the top seed brings up a second set point before taking it with a fine volley at the net.

  6. Deucepublished at 13:41 BST

    Sinner 0-0 Borges*

Good recovery from Nuno Borges. He sees off both break points with little fanfare, unfurling a cross-court forehand winner on the second with Jannik Sinner flat-footed.

  7. Break points Sinnerpublished at 13:40 BST

    Sinner 0-0 Borges*

Nuno Borges gets proceedings on Centre Court under way with an ace.

But he follows it with a couple of loose groundstrokes either side of a helpful net cord for Jannik Sinner. 15-40.

  8. First-round match 'exactly what Sinner needed'published at 13:38 BST

    Sinner v Borges

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

Nuno Borges is a very good all-round player. He doesn't have a massive anything in his game, but he hits the ball well and hard. He is tough to play against.

Jannik Sinner really needed a tough match to get into form, but maybe his first round was a little bit too tough. He was a bit short on playing practice on the grass but, assuming he has pulled up OK, it was exactly what he needed.

I expect a better performance from him today after being a bit patchy in the first round. I'm curious to see how he goes here.

  9. 'Why she has been dominating'published at 13:38 BST

    *Sabalenka 5-1 Kessler

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Two

It is why she has been dominating women's tennis.

When she plays the top players, they are capable of bringing some power as well, but when it is so relentless for so long, it takes a lot of energy from the other player to overcome that.

You have to have constant energy and tension in your body to resist her pace and send it back constantly.

  10. Postpublished at 13:36 BST

    Sinner v Borges

Jannik Sinner and Nuno Borges have only met once on the ATP Tour, back in 2022.

Sinner won their second-round encounter at the Sofia Open in straight sets.

Borges has two career wins over top-10 players, most recently beating Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Australian Open. Sinner has never lost in the second round at Wimbledon.

  11. Sabalenka breakspublished at 13:35 BST

    *Sabalenka 5-1 Kessler

Aryna Sabalenka works McCartney Kessler wide with a deep backhand before sealing the point with a simple volley at the net.

The top seed follows that up with a forehand winner and an explosive backhand to earn two break points.

Sabalenka seals it with a delicate volley at the net.

McCartney Kessler was powerless to stop Sabalenka there, she is in full flow.

Never mind Jannik Sinner, the Centre Court crowd erupted as some members of Europe's 2025 Ryder Cup winning team are welcomed to the Royal Box.

Rory McIlroy got the biggest cheer of all as he sauntered on in his Green Jacket. I wonder if that's from this year's Masters or last year's.

While Sinner toiled in round one, Nuno Borges came through his meeting with Tristan Boyer in straight sets, winning 6-3 7-5 7-5.

The 29-year-old, ranked 48th in the world, has enjoyed a productive grass-court swing, reaching the semi-finals in Mallorca, and will match his best Wimbledon showing if he reaches the third round.

Borges is also competing in the men's doubles, partnering Nicolas Barrientos.

The players have made their way out onto Centre Court, Jannik Sinner leading Nuno Borges.

Actors Richard E Grant and Charles Dance are in attendance alongside several members of Europe's Ryder Cup team. Having successfully identified two famous people, I'm going to tap out of celebrity spotting now.

  15. 'You live and breathe every minute with her'published at 13:32 BST

    Sabalenka 4-1 Kessler*

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Two

I love the reaction from Sabalenka. Such a big fan. She really plays with her emotions. You live and breathe every minute with her.

She is fun and she brings that part of her personality too when she plays.

The noise the ball makes off Sabalenka’s racquet when she’s in full flight is so pleasing. A proper ping off the strings. That was impressive to dig herself out of a bit of a hole at 30-40.

  17. Sabalenka holdspublished at 13:31 BST

    Sabalenka 4-1 Kessler*

Aryna Sabalenka comes through her first test of the match to hold as McCartney Kessler can't get a backhand over the net from the back of the court.

  18. Deucepublished at 13:29 BST

    *Sabalenka 3-1 Kessler

Some trademark brilliant striking from the back of the court from Aryna Sabalenka as a forehand winner across court on the stretch draws loud applause from the Court One crowd.

The world number one then double faults to send the game to deuce and there's half a chance for McCartney Kessler here.

  19. Will Sinner avoid another scare?published at 13:27 BST

    Sinner v Borges

Defending champion and men's top seed Jannik Sinner will be hoping for an improved performance in his second-round meeting with Nuno Borges on Centre Court.

The Italian was on court for three and a half hours and had to recover from 2-1 down to beat Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets.

He struck 52 unforced errors (but did hit 72 winners to Kecmanovic's 20), suffered a nasty fall in the third set, and finished the match with a bloodied shoe because of a problematic toenail.

Sinner may have a few nerves heading into this match having exited at the same stage in this year's French Open, but can take confidence from his impressive record at Wimbledon - he's reached at least the quarter-finals in his past four appearances.

  20. Sabalenka breakspublished at 13:25 BST

    *Sabalenka 3-1 Kessler

McCartney Kessler misses a forehand she feels she should have made and holds her head in her hands.

It proves costly as the American puts a backhand long on the next point to give Aryna Sabalenka the break.
