  1. 'Prodigious young talent Jodar is here to stay'published at 13:11 BST 29 June

    Jodar 6-3 6-3 7-5 Gill

    Colin Fleming
Former British tennis player on BBC Two

There is a new Rafa in town! It is 19-year-old Rafael Jodar.

He takes the win on his Wimbledon debut. He was too good for wildcard Felix Gill, who put up a good fight in set three in particular.

This prodigious young talent from Madrid is here to stay. He showed a real appetite for grass court tennis today. Who knows where this fortnight will end up for him.

    A really impressive debut.

It's further frustration from a British perspective with Felix Gill losing in the opening round.

The 24-year-old Briton, who was making his debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam, was handed a tough opener against 23rd seed Rafael Jodar.

A harsh lesson for Gill as he loses in straight sets but a great opportunity to see where he needs to improve.

  3. Norrie holdspublished at 13:08 BST 29 June

    *Zheng 1-3 Norrie

Michael Zheng and Cameron Norrie play out the point of the match so far with both players working some fine angles, and it's the American who comes out on top as he steps in for a forehand winner.

Norrie fights back to hold and consolidate his break with some strong first serves which Zheng can't get into play.

  5. Dart up first on Court Onepublished at 13:05 BST 29 June

    Ostapenko v Dart (13:00 BST)

Those with Court One tickets would have been expecting to see Emma Raducanu up first today, but following the British number one's withdrawal through injury late last night it will now be Harriet Dart filling the slot.

The British number five takes on 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, who is currently ranked 31 in the world, for a place in the second round.

The pair are out on court now going through their warm ups.

  6. Norrie breakspublished at 13:03 BST 29 June

    Zheng 1-2 Norrie*

There's a small delay on court two as the umpire reminds fans to switch off their mobile phones.

On the grass, Norrie challenges Zheng's serve again to earn a third break point of the the set and he makes this one count as the American spoons a forehand long.

Good start from British 26th seed Norrie.

    Mochizuki 6-3 6-0 6-0 Basing

Max Basing's Grand Slam main draw debut is over.

The Briton held his own at times against fellow qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki in the opening set but the match got away from him in the second and third.

A double bagel is not how Basing would have pictured this match going but at 23 years old, he'll no doubt be back again in the coming years.

  8. Zheng and Norrie trade holdspublished at 12:59 BST 29 June

    *Zheng 1-1 Norrie

Cameron Norrie's got a line of sun cream across his nose and cheeks making him look a bit like a cricketer.

The Briton brings up two break points in the first game but Michael Zheng fights back well to hold.

Norrie then holds to 15 in a comfortable first service game.

  9. Norrie hoping to end bad formpublished at 12:52 BST 29 June

    *Zheng 0-0 Norrie

Cameron Norrie was a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2022 but he comes into this year's tournament on a five-match losing streak and without a win on grass in 2026.

It's world number 144 Michael Zheng to get us under way on court two.

  10. Game and second set - Rublevpublished at 12:48 BST 29 June

    Rublev 4-6 7-6 (8-6) Safiullin*

12th seed Andrey Rublev is back on track after losing the opening set against fellow Russian Roman Safiullin.

Rublev, who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2023, takes the second set on a tie-break.

It looks like Rublev still has a few more gears to shift through but he's on the board.

    Zheng v Norrie

Up next on court two is British 26th seed Cameron Norrie against unseeded American Michael Zheng.

Norrie is the only British seed remaining in the men's and women's draws following Emma Raducanu's withdrawal on Sunday because of injury.

    No pressure then Cameron...

    *Mochizuki 6-3 6-0 Basing

It's not looking good for 23-year-old Briton Max Basing on court 14 either.

Basing was broken three times in the opening set and has just been bagelled in the second.

Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki broke three times to wrap up that second set in just 33 minutes.

  13. Jodar breaks backpublished at 12:38 BST 29 June

    *Jodar 6-3 6-3 2-2 Gill

    Or maybe not...

It looks like Harry spoke too soon. Felix Gill came out with intent at the start of this third set but Rafael Jodar has stepped up a gear too.

Gill saves one break point but can't stave off the second as Jodar gets the set back on serve at 2-2.

Now that’s something for Felix Gill to build on!

A first loose game from Rafael Jodar gives him the perfect start to the third set. A few words of encouragement from his team, and Gill tells himself ‘OK, here we go’ as he sets himself to serve.

The Briton is becoming increasingly vocal now - and the crowd are responding. He pumps his fist in the direction of his team after seeing off a break point to consolidate his breakthrough. Momentum building for the home favourite.

The stands aren’t quite full on court three, but they soon will be if word begins to spread of a potential British fightback here…

Fourth seed Jessica Pegula is through to the second round without any major issues.

The American wrapped up victory on court two in just one hour and 13 minutes against Darja Vidmanova of the Czech Republic.

Pegula has struggled at Wimbledon in the past, going beyond the third round just once in six appearances when she reached the quarter-finals in 2023.

  16. 'A learning process'published at 12:23 BST 29 June

    Bencic 6-2 6-1 Stojsavljevic

    Jo Durie
Former British number one on BBC Two

What a learning experience for Mika Stojsavljevic.

Her second Wimbledon. A lot of learning to be done and I hope she tales that and uses that on the practice court because Bencic gave her a bit of a lesson there.

It is what you do in these matches, it is a learning process.

  17. Jodar staying cool under pressurepublished at 12:21 BST 29 June

    Jodar 6-3 6-3 0-1 Gill*

Unfortunately, they are sat directly behind the umpire’s chair from where I’m sat, but there is a group of Spanish fans wearing bucket hats in the colours of their national flag who are very much enjoying what they’re watching from Rafael Jodar so far here.

Not only do they look great - but they are also proving a very wise choice as the midday sun beats down on court three.

Thankfully there’s a gentle breeze to keep the temperature a decent way down on those which the players have had to struggle through in recent weeks.

Another spectator is made to sweat by an intense stare from Jodar as they put him off his serve, but the 19-year-old resets impressively to deny home favourite Felix Gill on break point before wrapping up another set - just as it briefly appeared he may be beginning to feel the heat.

All over. Belinda Bencic wraps up a love hold to seal victory.

Mika Stojsavljevic gets a standing ovation as she heads off court.

The 17-year-old will have to wait until next year to try and get her first Wimbledon win over the line, but there are definitely positive signs of progress for the British teenager.

Game, set and match Bencicpublished at 12:18 BST 29 June

    Bencic 6-2 6-1 Stojsavljevic

A comfortable win for Swiss 11th seed Belinda Bencic, who reaches the second round with a 6-2 6-1 win over Britain's Mika Stojsavljevic.

Bencic earns three match points and wraps it up at the first time of asking as Stojsavljevic is unable to get a backhand over the net.

Bencic - a semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year - had too much experience for Stojsavljevic, who was playing in only her second Grand Slam.
