    Wu 6-5 Allen

On a break of 36 and looking comfortable, Mark Allen misses a black as he looks to break the pack of reds.

Another one of those that rattled the jaws of the bottom left pocket. Something that has become a bit of a signature of today's sessions.

A huge visit ahead for Wu Yize now.

For Wu, this is unique territory.

The first session yesterday, the juices would have been flowing and he'd have been really excited, while this one kind of feels a bit "nothing-y" - a four-session match is so hard to deal with.

    I wonder if he's just feeling a bit of a lull, I don't know.

The 2024 world champion lost in the second round of this year's championship to... Mark Allen.

For all the jaw-dropping snooker we saw from Wu Yize last night - it has been overshadowed by Mark Allen's tenacity and ringcraft.

To back that up with how much he had to dig in in the previous frame with a fluent break of 145, not a grafting break, a fluent break - all the attributes of a world champion.

Wu Yize must wonder what has hit him.

The Crucible can create turmoil one minute and the next minute you can feel like a world beater.

The frame before would have hurt his opponent but that will give Mark a feel-good factor, knowing he can come back from two really scrappy frames and no momentum to all of a sudden hitting him with [winning the frame] in one visit.

That'll give him a lot of confidence.

  6. Allen moves to within one after highest break of tournamentpublished at 16:17 BST 1 May

    Wu 6-5 Allen

Could you have written two more contrasting frames?

Mark Allen nails a break of 145, his eighth century of the Championship and the highest of this year's tournament at the Crucible so far.

He's still one behind, but he feels well in control of this one right now.

  7. Century for Allenpublished at 16:15 BST 1 May

    Wu 6-4 Allen

"Are these two going to have anything left in the tank," I said after the last frame.

Well, Mark Allen answers with a century.

You have to say at the moment that green missed by Wu Yize in the middle might just be pivotal. These matches, although long distance, can just change on one shot.

    Wu 6-4 Allen

I've blinked and Mark Allen has surpassed the half-century mark on his break.

That wasn't in the script after the last frame.

The confidence is absolutely oozing out of 'The Pistol' right now.

Yesterday I made the comment that it was "granite vs silk" for Higgins vs Murphy and I still hold to that. However, in my ignorance, I added "Wish this was the final". I was wrong. Watching Wu Yize and Mark Allen is absolutely riveting. What a match!

Mr Allen's galvanisation has been revitalised and he's putting pressure on the Chinese maestro.

What a potential turning point in this match but Wu Yize only has himself to blame. He flukes the red and with a relatively easy green, he just took it too casually and paid the ultimate price against a player we can now rename from 'The Pistol' to 'Houdini'.

  12. 'Allen came from nowhere to win that frame'published at 16:07 BST 1 May

That will be something Wu Yize has never experienced before - having the roar of the crowd cheering Mark Allen on, because he's come from nowhere to win that frame.

Mark slowly dragged his way back into it. There are a lot of players who would have thrown the towel in quite early, but he played so many clever safety shots when he was trying to develop balls and, slowly but surely, he's clawing his way back into this match.

Unsurprisingly that is the longest frame of the match.

The 10th frame ended up being a shade over an hour which was around 20 minutes longer than the first four frames of this match on Thursday evening.

  14. Allen claws another back with remarkable framepublished at 16:04 BST 1 May

    Wu 6-4 Allen

    Wow.

What an incredible frame of snooker and it's Mark Allen that takes it. All the hard work and graft paid off for the Northern Irishman.

He receives a standing ovation for his efforts.

Where do we go from here?

    Wu 6-3 Allen

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

It's a horrible frame for either player to lose. Wu Yize had a 50-point lead, Mark Allen has produced some world class safety play. To lose this would be a heartbreaker.

  16. Postpublished at 15:57 BST 1 May

    Wu 6-3 Allen

I have no idea how these two are going to have anything left in the tank after this and it's only the second frame of the session! We're approaching the one-hour mark of it. It's the longest frame of the tournament for both players.

'The Pistol' trails by 13 with 18 remaining.

    It's still absolutely anybody's frame.

  17. Postpublished at 15:50 BST 1 May

    Wu 6-3 Allen

    We've had a ball potted!

After a long spell without a pot, Wu Yize finds a red.

The 22-year-old then immediately misses the green to middle and Mark Allen is still, incredibly, somehow in this frame.

30 points the lead for Wu Yize, with 27 remaining.

Is this the first time there has been only one English player in the semi-finals? Because it's nice to see four different countries represented.

    JD, Cleethorpes

You don't have to go back too far, JD.

The most recent time it happened was in 2023 - Belgium's Luca Brecel beat China's Si Jiahui in the semi-finals, while Northern Ireland's Mark Allen lost to Englishman Mark Selby.

Brecel went on to win the title.

What a fascinating frame of snooker this has been. There has been some very good stuff in this. Both players desperate to get the ball in open play.

Back-to-back fouls from Wu Yize means Mark Allen is nicely chipping into the score without even being at the table.

Wu receives a warning from the referee ahead of his third attempt but this time he does manage to connect with the red.

    Wu leads 59-23.
