    Wu 4-2 Allen

There are a gaggle of reds below the black spot so Wu Yize, currently on a break of 45, still has plenty to do to win the frame at this visit.

Make that 46 as he cuts a red into the right corner with the long rest.

What does Mark Allen have in that red mug of his?

    Mark, Manchester

I'm fairly sure it's hot water, Mark. He has spoken before about his hands getting cold while playing and so it's to keep his hands as warm as possible.

    Wu 4-2 Allen

Wu Yize is back at the table at the start of frame seven and it's almost a repeat from frame six, with the cue ball travelling some distance but the break continuing.

That frame-winning break from Wu for 4-2 was one of the best I have seen this tournament. No fear snooker - has he forgotten he is at the Crucible?

Wu Yize's rise up the world rankings has been quite rapid. He's 10th at the moment and he's only been a professional since 2021.

He's only 22, the sky is the limit and he's learning all the time - that's the scary thing.

Wu Yize is World Championship material - he can win it this year.

His judgement of the line of the cue ball was great, he's very much in control.

Mark Allen is playing great as well, but this guy is not baulking at the job in hand.

The first pot on the black is fantastic. They're so tough on these tables and not only has he knocked it in, he's stunned up to get on the red.

The cue ball has picked up some air miles on that break!

  8. Wu wins frame sixpublished at 21:11 BST 30 April

    Wu 4-2 Allen

Hossein Vafaei likened playing Wu Yize to playing against a PlayStation and it's frames like that one that are the reason for that analogy.

Doesn't seem to matter where the balls are - he'll pot them.

A break of 78 puts Wu two frames up once more.

    Wu 3-2 Allen

    Steven Hallworth
    Snooker commentator on BBC Two

It's interesting to see the contrast between the two players.

Mark Allen prides himself on his cue ball being exactly where he wants it to be, but Wu Yize doesn't care where he leaves the cue ball because he backs himself to knock them in.

    Wu 3-2 Allen

Wu Yize doesn't quite have the cue ball on a string in this break but he is potting his way out of trouble to keep the break going.

36 and counting for Wu, who is playing in his first World Championship semi-final.

    Wu 3-2 Allen

An aggressive safety shot from Mark Allen doesn't quite work out - a red springs from the pack and right over the corner pocket.

Wu Yize pots it from distance, followed by a superb black down the top cushion, and he's off again.

One of the shots of the night so far.

In open play, with the balls everywhere, Wu is so dangerous that you can forgive him a few mistakes in the tactical department.

It was very encouraging by Wu Yize. We keep saying he's 22, he's young and he pots balls and whatever, but he was good near the end of that frame.

In a perfect world he'd have laid a better snooker behind the green, but the rest of it afterwards was very good.

  14. Wu back in frontpublished at 20:58 BST 30 April

    Wu 3-2 Allen

Wu Yize began the frame with a chance of a 147 break but he eventually takes it in a bit more roundabout way.

He's back in front at 3-2, delighting the crowd with an exhibition shot or two when clearing the colours.

    Wu 2-2 Allen

What a pot from Wu Yize, a very thin cut on a red into the left middle, and although he won't pot a colour to follow, Mark Allen needs a snooker if he's going to have a chance of winning the frame.

Wu sticks the brown safe on the side cushion as a bit of extra insurance.

    Wu 2-2 Allen

This is becoming an important safety battle between Wu Yize and Mark Allen on the final red.

Some excellent laying of - and escapes from - snookers.

It seems from the sessions so far in these semi-finals that break-building will be the key. Owning the table and avoiding unforced errors will get you over the line. No-one has so far managed to get a run going.

    Wu 2-2 Allen

Mark Allen goes in-off for the second time in the frame and, even worse news for the former world number one, he's left a free ball.

Wu Yize pots the brown as an extra red, then goes brown again to leave himself a pot on the last red...

But he decides to lay a snooker.

    On we go.

Rule number one in a situation like this has to be to get the object ball safe. If you can get both (cue ball and object ball) safe, that's a bonus.

    Wu 2-2 Allen

Mark Allen can't pot a tough final red and he still trails by 21 points with 35 remaining.

An exchange of safety shots follows and, with where the colours are, whoever pots the last red is a strong favourite.
