Summary

  • Ulster v Stade Francais (13:00 GMT)

  1. Goodbye from Belfastpublished at 15:03 GMT 17 January

    FT: Ulster 26-19 Stade Francais

Well that was a game of two halves! Thankfully for Ulster, they do enough in the first half to fend off Stade Francais' big second half.

That means Ulster top Pool 3 and will have home advantage going into the knockout rounds in April.

You can read Jonathan Bradley's match report from the Affidea Stadium here and, until next time, tale care and we'll see you soon!

  2. Stockdale for Ireland?published at 15:01 GMT 17 January

Former Exeter Chiefs fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

There absolutely no reason why Jacob Stockdale can't be wearing a green jersey going into the Six Nations.

He's a fella that's getting touches of the ball, making line breaks, he's got that left foot and he's putting balls in behind.

  3. 'Delighted with the win'published at 14:58 GMT 17 January

    FT: Ulster 26-19 Stade Francais

Man of the Match Bryn Ward speaking to Premier Sports:

"We came out of the blocks fast at the start but credit to Stade for such a big second half, they really put it to us.

We're disappointed that we allowed it to be so close but delighted we could hold on for the win and top the pool.

I love playing for Ulster. It's all that I've wanted to do for my whole life so I'm absolutely loving it."

  4. 'Job done'published at 14:53 GMT 17 January

Former Ulster fly-half Ian Humphreys on BBC Radio Ulster

It's a case of job done - all in all not the most pretty second half.

But what about the first half! That's what we want to see going forward.

Phew! It's knocked on and the game is over. Talk about a game of two halves but Ulster do enough for a bonus point win and, despite allowing Stade Francais a losing bonus point, Ulster will top the pool.

The clock is in the red but Stade win a penalty right on halfway in the centre of the park. The ball is put into touch just shy of the Ulster 22. One last roll of the dice for the visitors.

Louis Foursans-Bourdette kicks over the top and the bounce evades Robert Baloucoune and lands in the paws of Tanginoa Halaifouna. However, he is well held up by the Ulster defence which wins a scrum that results in an UIster free kick.

We've had a few reset scrums in the middle of the park which will help Ulster run the clock down but we didn't think that would be necessary at half time!

Five minutes remain and Ulster just overthrow a pass into touch. The TMO is checking a fend by Stuart McCloskey on Samuel Ezeala which seems close to the throat but all is ok.

Ulster win a big scrum penalty and go for the corner but Rob Herring's throw isn't straight. Is that a big opportunity missed?

Ulster look a bit shell-shocked. The message has to be not to panic and make sure we get the next score.

Stade have upped the tempo in the second half and starved Ulster of possession.

  12. try

Converted Try - Ulster 26-19 Stade Francaispublished at 14:34 GMT 17 January

    Lucas Peyresblanques (Foursans-Bourdette con)

Those subs that Paul Gustard made early in the second half have made a huge difference. It is replacement hooker Lucas Peyresblanques who hits his man at the lineout and picks off the back of the maul to stroll over uncontested.

Foursans-Bourdette adds the extras and Stade are back within losing bonus point range. What a big last ten minutes we have on our hands here...

    Ulster 26-12 Stade Francais

A kick into the corner after a Stuart McCloskey line-break sees Zac Ward and Charles Laloi collide on the ground going for the ball. As it squirms loose, Jacob Stockdale gathers and goes over.

However, replays clearly show that Ward pulled the ankle of Jeremy Ward who may well have beaten Stockdale to it. You might get away with that for the 3rd XV but not with cameras galore at the Affidea Stadium!

What a phenomenal catch - it's really impressive.

You can feel the tension in the stadium and it's vital Ulster get the next points.

The travelling contingent of Stade Francais supporters to the right of the press box are certainly enjoying this more now.

Ulster need something to get the momentum back.

    Charles Laloi

Is the comeback on? That man Foursans-Bourdette puts a beautifully-weighted kick into the corner but there are three Ulster men there. The closest is Jacob Stockdale who perhaps was caught ball-watching and wasn't aware of Charles Laloi hurtling up behind him.

The Stade winger makes a wonderful one-handed catch of a greasy ball and keeps control to dot down. Foursans-Bourdette can't add the extras but the 'Pink Army' in the stands at the Affidea Stadium are making some noise for the first time today while the home fans are shifting a little bit more nervously.

    Ulster 26-7 Stade Francais

Louis Foursnas-Bourdette has injected some life into this Stade side and he puts Juan-Martin Scelzo through a gap. He makes ground into the 22 but, with an advantage behind them, the kick into the corner is too long.

However, line-out Stade ten metres from the Ulster line...

Converted Try - Ulster 26-7 Stade Francaispublished at 14:11 GMT 17 January

    Giorgi Melikidze (Foursans-Bourdette con)

The Georgian tighthead scores an incredible eighth try of the season as he powers over from close range. I would like to see the average distance of his tries as when he gets close, he is near-impossible to stop.

Replacement out-half Louis Foursans-Bourdette knocks over the extras as the Parisians get on the board.

That's got to be the main target for Ulster in this second half - to try to make sure they don't let Stade back in the game and get momentum.
