Alex Mann shouldn't be in the squad let alone the team. Neither should Taine Plumtree - guaranteed to give away penalties.

Wales endured a nightmare start that left the pundits, including former Lions wing Alex Cuthbert, scratching their heads at Twickenham.

Surely they will be better against France?

  4. We let ourselves and people at home down - Lakepublished at 08:48 GMT 13 February

    Six Nations 2026

Wales captain Dewi Lake says his side let themselves and the Welsh public down following Saturday's 48-7 Six Nations defeat by England.

Lake was one of four visiting players to be shown a yellow card as they were overpowered by Steve Borthwick's side, conceding seven tries.

Former Wales fly-half Dan Biggar criticised the first-half performance, describing it as "nowhere near good enough for international rugby" as Wales were trailing 29-0.

"We said at the end of the game that we let ourselves down and people at home down," said Lake.

"We spoke all week about what we were going to produce and we didn't do it."

Wales' performance against England led to some brutal honesty when reviewing the game at the start of the week.

Attack coach Matt Sherratt hopes there will be a reaction in front of home support in Cardiff on Sunday.

He said: "We want to make the nation proud [and] it doesn't sting anyone more than the players and staff, it's so disappointing.

"There wasn't a lack of effort, but at the top end of sport, you need more than effort."

  8. Could Francis return to the starting line-up?published at 08:37 GMT 13 February

    Six Nations 2026

Tomas Francis admits it has been tough watching Wales’ downward spiral in recent years but says it feels “amazing” to be back in the squad for the first time since the 2023 World Cup.

Francis is pushing for a first start of the Six Nations after being a replacement against England last weekend.

  9. A first Crack at the Six Nations?published at 08:35 GMT 13 February

Olly Cracknell is another leading contender for a call-up to the team after missing out against England.

The back-row forward made his Test debut in November after being called up due to more injury misfortune for legendary number eight Taulupe Faletau.

Cracknell earned his shot thanks to his physical performances for Leicester and the former Osprey would certainly add some much-needed bulk against France’s big units.

Will Tandy bring the 31-year-old in alongside Aaron Wainwright?

The number eight was not at his best against England - who was? - but still made 75 metres from 13 carries, beating five defenders and crossing the gain line eight times.

Josh Macleod and Alex Mann started at flanker last week with Taine Plumtree and Harri Deaves coming off the bench after Tandy went with a 6-2 split of forwards and backs.

  10. Straight swap with Hawkins?published at 08:33 GMT 13 February

Fit-again Owen Watkin is pushing hard for a first international appearance since rupturing knee ligaments in France in round one of the 2025 tournament but Joe Hawkins is the leading midfield option.

The Scarlets centre or fly-half shared the 12 jersey with Ben Thomas in the autumn.

Hawkins, who returned to Wales from Exeter last summer, impressed against New Zealand and kept the start versus South Africa.

If Thomas does drop out then Steve Tandy is likely to opt for a player with similar ball-playing skills.

Scarlets boss Nigel Davies spoke in glowing terms about Hawkins last month and signalled his intention to get him to focus on being a centre.
