Wales flew to San Juan hunting a third Test victory on the spin - something they have not done since the 2023 World Cup.

It was always a long shot.

Scotland's win in Argentina gave them some hope of an upset but this was a different Pumas side.

The hosts were more than good value for their victory and will now look to add to England's woes next week.

Argentina had too much pace, power and guile for Wales, who once again showed no shortage of spirit to stay in the fight and give themselves a chance of a pair of bonus points.

However, their attack gives some major cause for concern with their main threat coming from the driving line-out and Rhys Carre's big bulk.

Steve Tandy will be pleased with aspects of this performance but knows that his squad must go up a few levels if they are to even stay competitive against South Africa's physicality.

Argentina was always going to be a tough task and South Africa will be even tougher.

Tandy must be tempted to freshen up his side as Wales look to leave Durban with some positives after a long and draining season.

We'll be back next week to provide all the updates and reaction to the final game of the 2025-26 season.

Wales were second rate in everything. Murray is a consistent complete liability at 15. How many missed tackles too?

Sums up the game ref couldn't wait to finish the game he missed the most blatant off the ball tackle you'll ever see.

    Ryan, Sully

Wales so far off being a Tier 1 rugby nation again. Pains me to say but rugby has advanced so much in terms of the number of competitive nations it’s hard to see Wales ever being a top 5 side again. And why do our players look physically so small compared to other teams?

Ryan Elias speaking on S4C: "We are disappointed with the result in the end. They were a lot more physical than us in the first half and they went in two tries in front and we had to chase the game, but fair play they are a great side.

"They won those extra few metres and were slipping off tackles. There's lots of work still to do to build with South Africa coming up next week.

"We didn't show enough today, we went through the phases and looked a lot more physical towards the end. We need to go back and look at everything.

"I'm very proud to get 50 caps, I was happy with one. Me and my family are very proud because I put a lot of work into it so I'm very happy."

Dewi Lake speaking on S4C: "Results like these are going to happen. They had a disappointing loss last week.

"We started well scoring an early try, but we dropped off. They were more physical than us and they beat us in that battle.

"But ultimately we left ourselves with too much to do.

"I don't think structure is the problem, It's the physical element. We were dropping off too many tackles. We have to work harder and be quicker.

"When we ran the ball we looked good but in that second half, we didn't see the ball. There is work to do on the defence and especially the physical element."

Wales were just a little slow to everything.

We questioned Argentina's intensity against Scotland last week but they were certainly at the races tonight.

Argentina were certainly the better team.

They just controlled everything and Wales left themselves with too much to do for the second half.

Argentina are a team that play on emotion and we saw that tonight.

Argentina work so hard in attack. They always seem to have that extra man, they have great shape and a lot of that is down to the coaching staff.

Blue and white flags are still waving and there is a real sense that the evening's festivities are only just beginning.

Many inside Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario will now turn their attention to Argentina's World Cup quarter-final against Switzerland, hoping for another memorable night of sporting celebration.

We need to acknowledge that we are the underdogs when we play Argentina home or away. The results speak for themselves. The scales need to fall from some peoples eyes

    Paul, Wales

Costelow no way near international standard. LRZ being picked on reputation rather than form. Line breaks are far too easy for the Pumas

    Lee, Midlands

Why oh why does Tandy keep selecting Josh Adams. Rhys Carre should never have been taken off. I am beginning to wonder if Tandy really knows what he’s doing.

There was hope for Wales to get an extra point, or maybe two, at the end there.

I hope the referee has had a real look at that decision as that could make a difference towards the end of the tournament.

In truth there was only one candidate for man of the match.

Joaquin Oviedo gets the honour after running in two tries and causing Wales all manner of problems with his ball carrying.

They go side to side in their 22 and make a break... only to knock the ball on just as they look to have earned an opening.
