So, Wales have named their 23 to face Scotland with four changes made by head coach Steve Tandy.

Apologies for technical issues that meant we were unable to bring you live pictures of the press conference.

The boss was quick to point to the six-day turnaround and the new Six Nations schedule, stating that he wants to freshen up his side in the bid to avoid another Wooden Spoon.

There are some exciting selections - Gabriel Hamer-Webb will be lively on the wing, Sam Costelow can get things moving when in the groove - but Wales still start as huge underdogs.

The bookies have Scotland around -18 in the handicap and they will be expected to keep their title tilt going with five match points at Principality Stadium.

We'll have plenty more build-up to the game over the coming days, plus a report of the Under-20s fixture tomorrow night.

Saturday's match kicks off at 16:40 GMT and there will be live television coverage on BBC One and audio commentary on BBC Sounds via BBC Radio Sports Extra, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru.

The commentary will also be available on the BBC Sport website where you can follow blow-by-blow action with our live text commentary. The match is also being televised on S4C.

Can Wales cause an upset? Fingers crossed they at least make it a contest after being blown away by England and France.

The focus in world rugby at the moment is building a whole squad of great players - not just a starting 15. I'm choosing to see this positively, as Tandy is ensuring that when we get back to winning ways we do it with a full squad's worth of talent.

Just far too many completely bewildering selections, yet again. It beggars belief and it marks the first time I've ever been much more motivated to watch the Under-20s instead of the senior team.

Wales head coach Steve Tandy on Scotland's threats: "They will have moments in the game.

"We are aware of what Finn Russell, Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Darcy Graham can do but we have to focus on being better ourselves."

Tandy continued: "We want to win games but before that we have to build more consistent performances.

"We are finding out about the players in high-profile situations against world-class teams.

"We have to have one eye on the future while also creating a cohesive team."

Ben Carter is great and I'm sure his line-out calls were great against South Africa, but we lost that 73-0... Tandy is grasping at straws.

Wales head coach Steve Tandy on slow starts: "Starting better is the next thing. Discipline was a big improvement and our scrum created good pictures while we could have scored more tries.

"We know that Scotland will come out of the blocks and hold the ball, so we have to start more sharply.

"We are playing top-quality opposition and if you clock off then they will punish you. We have to stay engaged."

Wales head coach Steve Tandy on Scotland: "It will be a huge game but no different to any other. I have a lot of amazing memories with Scotland but we want to create some with Wales.

"The coaching staff were amazing - they know a lot about how I go about things. It's about not over-thinking it. They are great people but it's the same here.

"I've shared a few texts with Gregor Townsend. He taught me a lot about international rugby and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I am grateful for the time in Scotland and the people were amazing."

Tandy continued: "The game is going to be really quick against Scotland and Taine [Plumtree] adds mobility. He has had an impact off the bench.

"It's a great opportunity for Ben Carter and he has been really consistent for the Dragons.

"Against South Africa, he called the line-outs well and it's a good opportunity. We feel that Ben will add value."

    Six Nations 2026

Wales head coach Steve Tandy on the changes: "It's a new format with three games in three weeks and a six-day turnaround, plus looking at Scotland.

"Ellis Mee is okay (fitness) and has done well but we feel Gabriel Hamer-Webb adds something to the group for Scotland. The way he has trained and performed for Leicester has been outstanding.

"Sam Costelow has really responded to not being involved in the autumn. Dan Edwards has done well but with a six-day turnaround it's a good opportunity to freshen the team up.

"The way that Sam has attacked the games, he's a really good all-round footballer."

  18. A case for the defencepublished at 09:52 GMT 19 February

    Six Nations 2026

Of Wales' five biggest Six Nations defeats, four have been in the last two championships.

Former Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards, who is now with France, was quick to point out to S4C that the modern game means that defeats are now heavy.

"What people have to realise is that the number of points scored in rugby now is totally different to 10 or 15 years ago," said Edwards, who helped Wales win four Six Nations titles and three Grand Slams.

"The rules are now so pro-attack. A bit of a stuffing before was 25-3 but now it's 50-odd."

Wales were thumped 68-14 by England in Cardiff to finish last year's Six Nations and the Principality Stadium drubbings have continued.

Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa all hit half-centuries in the autumn then France racked up 54 points last weekend.

Scotland possess plenty of attacking threats, with playmaker Finn Russell pulling the strings.

Could they set a new record in the 143-year history of this fixture?

Scotland's 35-7 success at Murrayfield in 2023 is their biggest margin of victory and also a high for points scored.
