Scotland have a penalty as South Africa go in at the side. With a few minutes left of the first half, they have a chance to get down into the corner again.

Scotland had been going right to left with their attack but Fagerson went left to right. It's great work.

Good work from Matt Fagerson, recognising that first guard defender on the side of the attack wasn't in position for South Africa.

    Matt Fagerson

And Fagerson the younger crashes over the line!

There's a TMO check but it all looks pretty good, and Pierre Brousset soon awards the try.

    Finn Russell adds the extras.

Well now! The scrum turns into a penalty to Scotland on the South African 5m line. That's a turn up for the books.

They take a quick tap and try and set up a maul, the old-fashioned way...

Here go Scotland. Kyle Rowe picks it up off his toes and makes yards. Then Finn Russell spins away from some big tackles.

The momentum is building... but then Ewan Ashman spills just five yards from the try line.

Moments like that will haunt Scotland.

I think South Africa know that Scotland, off quick ball, is where the likes of Finn Russell and Sione Tuipulotu are at their most dangerous.

South Africa only coughed up six penalties in total against England.

But they've leaked a few at the breakdown here and Gregor Townsend will be happy with that small win.

The kick got down into the 22m but the line-out move wasn't the best and Ben White ends up getting wrapped up in the contact.

Another visit to the 22m that ends with nothing. Scotland have to be more clinical.

Okay, this is better from Scotland. They've burrowed their way into the 22m with some big carries from Sione Tuipulotu and Kyle Steyn.

The ball comes out to Ewan Ashman on the wing but he's tackled into touch by Ethan Hooker - who was a last-minute replacement for Canan Moodie.

Scotland have the penalty though, and back they go.

Those were two big punches that South Africa have just landed. Scotland will be seeing stars, desperately trying to get some air into their lungs.

Not easy to do at this altitude.

You can't tackle Weise because he's in the air and being carried forward by the prop.

I'm not sure what you'd penalise it under but how can you defend that?

    Evan Roos

Oh my goodness me. That's a phenomenal score. South Africa are letting loose.

It all comes from the most ridiculous carry from Cobus Weise. He's hoisted into the air to carry the kick off, and then marched forward while he's still in the sky.

When his feet touch the floor, he marches up the pitch and Scotland are in complete disarray.

A few more phases, and Roos crashes over from short range.

Ohhh that is brilliant scrum-half play from South Africa's number nine.

The number nine snipes the corner of the ruck, skips away from Zander Fagerson, and scurries over from 22m out.

His first international try, as well.

Another penalty to South Africa after the scrum but this time they take it quick.

Evan Roos tries to bludgeon his way through but Scotland somehow hold it up on the line.

    They survive this time.

Scotland's forward pack crumples like a sheet of paper, and the referee's arm goes up for the advantage.

After a quick debate, South Africa decide for another scrum.

Turning the screw here. Another scrum like that and a card could be shown.

Scotland concede two penalties on the spin and the South Africans have an opportunity from right in front of the posts. I think Jack Dempsey conceded both.

And the Boks are going for the scrum. Big call.

    What an opening 10 minutes.

It's been incredibly tense. There's so many games within this game.

The set piece, the aerial kick battle. It's so interesting.

That is exceptional from Finn Russell.

The South African kick to the skies and it isn't gathered by Kyle Rowe. It's bouncing behind the Scotland line, with three green shirts threatening to snaffle it up, but Russell somehow claims it.

That was like a goalkeeper gathering a dangerous loose ball.

First scrum there. A quick look at the stats suggests Wilco Louw is a whole three stone heavier than Zander Fagerson. My word.

The kick is down to the 5m line, big chance for Scotland here.

Ewan Ashman's throw is interfered with though. It was a knock on by South Africa, but Ashman's throw wasn't straight.

Ball to the Boks, and an opportunity wasted by the visitors.
