    Six Nations 2026

Italy are due to name their team later today and are looking to win three games in a Six Nations campaign for the first time.

Gonzalo Quesada's team started the championship with an 18-15 win against Scotland in the Rome rain and then arguably should have beaten Ireland in Dublin when edged out 20-13.

They were overpowered by France in Lille but responded with a superb 23-18 victory against England at Stadio Olimpico thanks to Leonardo Marin's late try.

The Azzurri, who beat Australia in the autumn, are 10th in the world rankings.

Thomas from Yorkshire's comment has reminded me that I set the question earlier asking if you could name the two players to start every game under Steve Tandy.

    They are... drum roll.....

    Dewi Lake and Alex Mann.

Those two forwards are among eight players to start every Six Nations game this year for Wales.

The other six are Dafydd Jenkins, Aaron Wainwright, Tomos Williams, Josh Adams, Eddie James and Louis Rees-Zammit.

Glad Steve Tandy has stayed loyal but he needs to change his captain because Dewi Lake is the main cause of slow ball because that suits his style. He will be a better player relieved of captaincy.

  4. Can Cardiff crowd inspire first win?published at 09:40 GMT 12 March

Wales are back in Cardiff for their final game of the Six Nations.

After rafts of empty seats against France, the atmosphere against Scotland was bouncing.

Can that Cardiff crowd help inspire a first championship win in three years?

“For the team and myself, going back to Principality Stadium is amazing," said Steve Tandy.

"The boys did really well creating their own energy against Ireland, but there's nothing better [than being at home].

"The boys reference in meetings what the Scotland game meant to them and the French game, the New Zealand game - the fans have been incredible and they're really behind the team and the team are really putting in performances to represent our nation."

It’s been a while since we’ve been able to reference stability when speaking about a Wales Test team, but it’s also a fourth consecutive start for the Joe Hawkins and Eddie James midfield combination.

The previous Wales centre pairing to start more than three Tests in a row together was Nick Tompkins and George North in 2022, a duo that we then saw together at the Rugby World Cup.

The work rate of Dewi Lake, Dafydd Jenkins, Aaron Wainwright and Alex Mann has rightly been praised over the past two rounds, but the influence of James Botham and Ben Carter has been just as important for Wales. The latter pair have previously been unlucky with injuries internationally.

And Tomas Francis’ return to Test rugby has brought much-needed experience to the number three shirt, with the prop hitting the fourth most attacking rucks of all teams going into this final round of matches.

Keeping the intensity in defence is the benchmark, but getting more ball in attack will now be the aim for Wales, with just four line breaks made over the past two rounds.

Don't forget the Scrum V Warm-Up show is on BBC Two Wales tonight at 20:00 GMT when Lauren will be joined by Wales head coach Steve Tandy and former internationals Alex Cuthbert, Jonathan Davies and Tom Shanklin.

Still think Josh Adams' best days are behind him. He’s not going to be in the next Rugby World Cup. I think I would prefer Mason Grady.

    Six Nations 2026

Wales back-row Olly Cracknell says Italy will provide an 'exciting finale' to this year's Six Nations for Wales.

Steve Tandy's side are without a win in this year's competition after four rounds of action.

Cracknell says there is pressure for Wales to get the win in Cardiff on Saturday.

    Six Nations 2026

Here's a quick quiz you can play with your mates, work colleagues - or the person sat next to you on the bus.

Can you name the eight players have started every Six Nations game for Wales? We just gave you the first one a few moments ago.

And for a bonus point - only two of those players have started every one of Steve Tandy's nine games in charge.

No prizes I'm afraid... only bragging rights that you know your stuff.

Answers to come before Tandy's press conference at 10:00 GMT which you can watch live here.

Wing Josh Adams will win his 70th cap on Saturday as he prepares to play in all five matches in the tournament.

Some supporters were questioning his place in the starting side before the tournament but he has hit back with tries against England and Scotland.

Adams is also the most experienced performer in Wales' three-quarter line.

Only prop Tomas Francis and scrum-half Tomos Williams, who will make their 82nd and 72nd appearance respectively, have more caps than Adams in the starting side that will take the field on Saturday.

But would you prefer to have Rees-Zammit on the wing?

Alex Mann has been given the nod by Steve Tandy and who can blame him after his Herculean defensive effort against Ireland last time out?

The flanker even threw in an impressive interception on his own try-line and just the 33 tackles - a new Championship record.

Wales' stand-out player of the tournament?

I like that Tandy is keeping the same squad to give the team time to develop playing with each other week in week out.

Whilst much happier with the performance last week, I still don't understand why Tommy Reffell isn't getting a call up to the squad. Played really well for Tigers.

  12. Selection shows 'cohesion and consistency' - Tandypublished at 09:05 GMT 12 March

    Six Nations 2026

Steve Tandy has kept faith with the starting team that gave Ireland a real scare in Dublin last week as he seeks a first win as head coach.

He said: “Having an unchanged team reflects the cohesion and the consistency in the group and the consistency of performance out in Ireland."

But he added: “This week we need to go up another level. We've had some really good performances. There were parts against France, then we built up into the Scotland game where I thought we were very good.

"Against Ireland we stepped up to the plate physically. Now it's putting it all together and creating our best performance this weekend."

The Wales team is out and for the first time in his nine games in charge, head coach Steve Tandy names an unchanged starting side.

In fact the only change from last week's thrilling game in Dublin is Blair Murray getting a place on the bench in place of debutant Louie Hennessey.

By coincidence, it's the first time Wales have picked the same 15 since after the last time they played Ireland in the Six Nations - under Matt Sherratt - last year.

Wales: Rees-Zammit; Mee, James, Hawkins, Adams; Edwards, Williams; Carre, Lake, Francis, Jenkins, Carter, Mann, Wainwright, Botham.

Replacements: Elias, Smith, Griffin, Beard, Cracknell, Hardy, Evans, Murray.

10 will be interesting if Costelow is fit. I'd put LRZ on the wing and Mee or Rogers at 15.

Wales' losing streak in the championship stretched to 15 games in Dublin last weekend but their performance has given hope of that nightmare run coming to an end against Italy.

Wales haven't celebrated after a Six Nations game since11 March, 2023.

As this story shows, a lot has changed in Welsh rugby since then.

I'd be happy if he rolled out the same 23 as last week. Deserve the chance to back it up and hopefully finally get that win.

Wales go into the game on the back of an encouraging performance against Ireland in Dublin.

Steve Tandy made three changes to the XV that went agonisingly close to beating Scotland with wing Ellis Mee starting along with fly-half Dan Edwards and flanker James Botham, who came in for the injured Sam Costelow and Taine Plumtree.

Bath centre Louie Hennessey, 21, made his international debut off the bench.

Wales v Ireland: Rees-Zammit; Mee, James, Hawkins, Adams; Edwards, T Williams; Carre, Lake (capt), Francis, D Jenkins, Carter, Mann, Botham, Wainwright.

Replacements: Elias, Smith, Griffin, Beard, Cracknell, Hardy, J Evans, Hennessey.

It's an early start here at Wales' headquarters in the Vale of Glamorgan as Steve Tandy names his team to face Italy.

We're heading into the final weekend of the Six Nations and what a thriller it looks set to be with everything on the line.

Wales and Italy may not be fighting for the title but they head into this last game bouyed by last week's performances.

On the back of a vastly improved performance by Wales against Scotland, they rocked Ireland in Dublin.

Now Tandy has the job of selecting his team to face an Italy side who pulled off their own piece of history with that first win over England.

Tandy is due to announce his team at 09:00 GMT and we will then get the chance to question his selections at a press conference at 10:00 GMT, which will be streamed live here.

But before that, let's have a look at some of the big calls that need to be made.
