The bout will mark the Birmingham fighter's third attempt at a world title, following defeats for Bellator middleweight gold by Johnny Eblen in 2023 and 2024.

Dutchman Van Steenis, who represents Spain, submitted Eblen in July to become champion with only seven seconds of the fight left.

I loved that fight. There were so many highlights.

The flow of the striking from both of these guys is the reason why the fight had such a good pace and Lapilus' technical ability was on show.

We didn't get to hear Dean Garnett's thoughts from inside the cage, but he has just taken to social media to have his say on tonight's defeat.

"Guys, I don't know what to say there," Garnett said on his Instagram story.

"That is not how I want to lose, I want to go out on my shield.

"I think the referee got way overzealous there and jumped in. I felt the body shot - it was a nice shot, and fair play to Baris [Adiguzel], it's nothing on him.

"But what was that? Let me fight. I'm here to work.

"I was never even nearly out. The body shot landed, it hurt me and I was about to shoot. What a joke.

"Thank you all for your support and congratulations to Baris, but that is not how you go out. That is not good enough by the referee and I deserve better."

Just on Francis Ngannou. The former UFC heavyweight champion said his PFL contract "ends soon" and "anything can happen in 2026".

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, the Cameroonian suggested potential fights against UFC legend Jon Jones and former boxing world champion Deontay Wilder, and did not rule out re-signing with the PFL.

Ngannou signed with the PFL in 2023 but has fought only once in the promotion, knocking out Renan Ferreira last year.

"I'm getting very close with the PFL contract, so they have to give me a fight," said Ngannou.

  20. Welcome to the PFL, Gittins!published at 19:16 GMT 13 December 2025

    Lapilus v Gittins

Liam Gittins signed with the promotion earlier this year after a successful amateur and professional career with Cage Warriors, where he became the bantamweight champion.

Gittins, who fights out of Liverpool's Next Generation Gym and counts UFC superstar Paddy Pimblett as one of his team-mates, has recorded 13 wins from his 17 professional bouts.

There is every chance this fight won't go the distance as seven out of Gittins' 10 wins during his time in Cage Warriors came from stoppages, with four of those either by KO or TKO.

Tonight's action between Gittins and his opponent Taylor Lapilus is the first fight on the main card.
