Combination of quick, snappy serves from Katie Boulter and when the first serve goes in it's proving tricky for Danielle Lao. Boulter edges to 40-0 and then challenges a call - and for the second time in a row, she gets it right! Hawk Eye says that serve kissed the chalk and Boulter holds to love.

    *Boulter 6-7 6-3 3-4 Lao

It was there to be hit! Katie Boulter worked it so well and the ball sat up in the middle of the court, ready for the Brit to put away, but she just gets her footing wrong and tugs a forehand into the tramlines for 30-15. Lao holds from there, and asks for a water at the change of ends.

So who is the man standing in Andy Murray's way on his return to singles action at SW19?

Nikoloz Basilashvili is the 24th seed at Wimbledon this year and clinched his fifth ATP Tour title last month when he won the BMW Open, his second title this year after also winning in Doha.

The Georgian arrives at the All England Club having reached the semi-finals in Halle last week, losing to Andrey Rublev, and enjoyed his best run at Wimbledon when he reached the third round in 2015.

The 29-year-old, whose father was a dancer in the Georgian national ballet, face Murray in a competitive match for the first time.

The last time Andy Murray’s face was on the Wimbledon scoreboard - without that of a doubles partner alongside him - came four years ago.

The last time the Scot played on this court by himself he was barely able to walk, limping around on one leg to somehow take Sam Querrey to five sets before losing.

What he has been through since would have forced most other players into retirement.

Not Andy Murray. Where will this latest comeback - at the age of 34 - take him?

I don’t think he knows. Let’s enjoy it, whatever happens.

And Katie Boulter takes it this time, throwing down a big serve and following it up with a sweeping forehand after Danielle Lao's return drops into mid-court. The American responds with a sensational return off the next, but Boulter sizzles down an ace. It's like a boxing match out there. 30-30.

Lengthy exchange as Katie Boulter stretches side to side, hanging in there, before undercooking from the baseline. She follows up with a double fault, although will challenge this one... and what a challenge! Just nipped the chalk, great shout.

  13. The comeback...published at 18:04 BST 28 June 2021

Andy Murray enjoyed his last Wimbledon visit, competing in the mixed doubles alongside Serena Williams, but returning to the singles draw is a different ball game.

The two-time champion limped off Centre Court following a quarter-final defeat in 2017 and has not been back in that draw since - the hip problem that had bothered him throughout the tournament resulted in surgery in January 2018 and again in January 2019.

The second operation - a resurfacing procedure that means Murray has a metal hip - came shortly after he tearfully announced at the Australian Open he thought the problem would force his retirement.

While the surgeries have derailed the three-time Grand Slam champion's career, they have not ended it and Murray made his singles comeback at Queen's last week following a niggling groin injury,

"I didn't know if I would be back playing singles," he said. "Now I'm hoping my body holds up and gives me a chance to compete."

    Andy Murray v Nikoloz Basilashvili

It's been a long time coming.

Andy Murray has not played a singles match at SW19 since 2017, because of a series of injuries and the postponement of last year's event because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But four years after his last appearance in the men's main draw, the Scot returns to take on Georgian 24th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Urgh. A Katie Boulter groundstroke goes begging and it hands Danielle Lao a chance to break at 30-40. And she gets it! The American forces the British hopeful deep and Boulter can only find the tape.

Boulter, from having four break points in the previous game, is broken herself.

    Stephens 6-3 6-4 Kvitova

Some quotes from Sloane Stephens, who has knocked out Petra Kvitova. Stephens says: "Seeing the first round I thought 'oh boy this will be a difficult task'.

"Coming here knowing we'd have fans here was really incredible. It's so special, not playing on grass for two years and to have my first match back here on Centre Court it's special.

"I love grass. It's been a couple of years since I've had a good result on grass. Here is a good start beating a really good grass court player."
