I can only imagine it's nerves that's dragging all these unforced errors out of Nishioka.
Nishioka nets a forehand and that's Murray with the mini-break in the tie-break. 2-0.We could well be going the distance.
So nearly all over. Now a tie-break.
Nishioka goes long. Murray saves the match point.
Match point for Nishioka. Murray had been 30-0 up in this game.

We can probably count on one hand how many times we've really seen Murray pump himself up today. That's what he needs.
*Murray 4-6 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 5-6 Nishioka
A very routine hold of serve from Nishioka.
Seyboth Wild v Evans
Right, from one British number straight to another!
Johanna Konta has sealed her place in the second round and now Dan Evans is already on court warming up.
The 23rd seed is facing Brazilian world number 113 Thiago Seyboth Wild.
Seyboth Wild is making his first appearance in a Grand Slam main-draw match, but has enjoyed victory at the US Open before - winning the junior tournament in 2018.
Murray 4-6 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 5-5 Nishioka*
Never in doubt. We continue. The 10th game of the fourth set is another test passed for Murray. It's still on serve in a tight and tense fourth set.

Andy Murray has played some really good points but is struggling to put them all together consistently.
We all have days like this and he's fighting, hanging in there and trying to find that level but it's hard to do that in an individual sport because you've got to do it all yourself.
*Murray 4-6 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 4-5 Nishioka
This is Andy Murray's first Grand Slam match since the 2019 Australian Open. He needs to do well in this game or the comeback is over for this competition.
*Murray 4-6 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 4-5 Nishioka
A two-handed backhand return doesn't find the court and Nishioka holds to 15. Murray now must hold his serve or his US Open adventure is over.

It's bizarre how different the levels are now. Nishioka started well but seems to have been dragged down into all these unforced errors and he's not able to move Andy around as well as he did earlier.

But Murray sprints through the next game. We've raced to 4-4 after a few hard-fought games.

Jiten Chandara: The score in Murray’s last grand slam match against Roberto Bautista Agut at the Australian Open in 2019 was 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-2.
Maggie Cooper: Andy's making me very nervous. The players must miss the crowd giving them support
Watson 6-7 (7-9) 1-6 Konta
After being made to work hard for the first set, Johanna Konta comes through with ease in the end.
Heather Watson drives her backhand long and it's all over on court five. A very accomplished performance from Konta.
Murray 4-6 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 3-3 Nishioka*
Murray was looking in trouble in that game - 0-30 behind and then having to save two break points.
He does so. We remain on serve in the fourth with Nishioka 2-1 ahead in sets.
Watson 6-7 (7-9) 1-5 Konta*
Johanna Konta had match point on Heather Watson's serve but got a bit over-excited and slapped her backhand winner into the net.
So she's forced to serve for her place in the second round now.
