    Murray 2-2 Nishioka*

This is looking like this is going to be a good test of the Murray fitness as Nishioka sends the 2012 champion scampering around the court. But all the effort for Murray comes to nothing as Nishioka holds after saving two break points. 2-2.

Kyle Edmund is another one watching here, cheering on his fellow Brit.

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I think you'll see a lot of players watching Andy today. I think everyone's curious.

We all love to watch the sport. The only strange thing is that they're probably going to be your opponents later in the tournament so you're constantly being spied on.

One of the quirks of this tournament is the fact that for safety reasons the top players have suites facing out on to Arthur Ashe so the stars can just go on the balcony and watch some tennis right in front of them.

Alexander Zverev, the world number seven, is among those spotted, eating his lunch.

A hold to 15 from Nishioka gets his first game on the board. Murray's first service game took longer than five minutes, but Nishioka comes through relatively comfortably in his.

    Murray 1-0 Nishioka*

Murray will be hoping there aren't too many 21-shot rallies, especially when it doesn't go his way. But that's what has just happened as Nishioka, glued to the baseline and utilising an impressive backhand again and again takes the point.

You really want to win that first service game. Murray's rehab is still ongoing. At the Battle of the Brits he was constantly in the gym doing his exercises.

He does a lot of specific weights to strengthen a lot of muscles around his hip. He's putting a lot of hours in throughout the day.

In his first Grand Slam match in 20 months, after a couple of hip surgeries, Andy Murray takes the lead today as a Nishioka backhand drifts out.

    *Murray 0-0 Nishioka

A slice backhand up the line, followed by a nifty spin, shows Murray looks in good shape, Nishioka leaps but nets and that is game point for Murray.

He can't take it at the first opportunity as a fine forehand from the Japanese player is perfect and we're at deuce. A tough opening game.

Nishioka, 24, is ranked 49th in the world and beat Britain's Dan Evans earlier this year in the second round of the Australian Open, before losing to Novak Djokovic a round later.
