  2. Pella saves break pointspublished at 14:02 BST 10 July 2019

    Pella 5-4 Bautista Agut*

The danger quickly returns for Guido Pella who, swiftly after breaking back, faces break points against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Pella saves his situation brilliantly, remaining composed enough to guide a delicate volley over the net with Bautista Agut glued to the baseline.

The Spaniard comes again in another drawn-out battle at the business end of the game, hitting a powerful cross-court backhand to test the Argentine's nerves once more.

In another 10 minute game, Pella is able to get himself over the line to move within reach of the first set.

This is proving to be a cracker.

Liam Walker: Goffin is playing well here, but he is too far behind the baseline, he needs to come forward, it's really the only difference between him and #Djokovic, external right now, it's allowing Noel to attack and seize the initiative

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

David Goffin was hitting the ball so clean, taking it early. It was the perfect plan. But his first serve percentage, he was getting half of them in, sooner or later that catches up with you against the greatest returner.

Suddenly you could see Novak lift, his shots were more penetrating, there was more grunting and the next thing you know the set is over. This is going to be so much harder for Goffin now.

    That's better from Goffin.

Forehand sends the defending champ right, before a forehand winner into an empty court.

Djokovic is making him work soooo hard though. The Serb lands an angled shot that lands on the line before completing the job with a drop.

  17. Pella breaks backpublished at 13:48 BST 10 July 2019

    *Pella 4-4 Bautista Agut

Guido Pella is being forced to work for absolutely everything out on Court One.

Though the Argentine has spent more time out on court than anyone else so far, he appears to still have plenty left in the tank as he battles back in the first set.

The world number 26 responds to going love-15 down on his serve by producing a first volleyed winner of the match and winning seven straight points to force three break points against the Spaniard.

All those opportunities go wasted, however, setting up a breathless baseline tustle for the game.

After 10 minutes and a fifth deuce, Pella takes us back on serve. Game on.

30-0 as Djokovic goes long with a forehand.

The defending champion rubs his eyes.

    He needs help from somewhere.

It comes in the form of a double fault and error.

    30-30.
