There was agony for Blair Kinghorn against Australia when one of his best international showings was marred by a last-gasp penalty miss in a 16-15 loss.

Last weekend, Scotland huffed and puffed before pulling away from Fiji for a 28-12 victory.

  2. Blurred vision or a cunning plan?published at 14:00 GMT 13 November 2022

    Scotland v New Zealand (14:15)

Gregor Townsend cited form and consistency when Finn Russell didn't make the squad cut, brushing aside suggestions that it had anything to do with previous run-ins and fall-outs.

Blair Kinghorn took over for the final match of the Six Nations and all three summer Tests against Argentina, with Russell excused from the tour. Kinghorn also got the nod in the autumn opener against Australia, but only home-based players were available.

What does Russell's return say about Project Kinghorn? Or was it always Project Kick Up the Backside for the star turn?

Or it simply muddled thinking from the head coach, who started Adam Hastings last week?

  3. 'Cool, calm and collected - for now'published at 13:57 GMT 13 November 2022

Finn Russell has just been out kicking at Murrayfield. What a huge afternoon it is for the fly-half.

A chance to shine again in Scotland blue against the mighty All Blacks, and prove a point to his coach along the way, perhaps.

You wouldn't know it as he strolled back down the tunnel. A very cool customer.

  4. Expect the unexpected?published at 13:55 GMT 13 November 2022

You'd have to take a trip to some kind of parallel universe where all is sweetness and light to find somebody who actually believes that Scotland will beat the All Blacks.

These things tend to happen when people least expect it mind you. When Ireland beat New Zealand for the first time in 2016 nobody saw it coming and nobody thought that Andy Farrell's team would win the summer series either.

In the summer, Argentina winning in New Zealand for the first time ever was a result that dropped out of the sky. It can happen and has happened. Will it happen today? Er, no.

  5. Telea makes Test bow for All Blackspublished at 13:52 GMT 13 November 2022

    Scotland v New Zealand (14:15)

Wing Mark Telea makes his All Blacks debut, with 16 players retained from the match day 23 that played in last week’s win against Wales.

Finlay Christie takes on the number nine jersey for a third time and Beauden Barrett moves from full-back to fly-half, while Jordie Barrett goes from 12 to 15.

David Havili and Anton Lienert-Brown form the centre partnership, as Samisoni Taukei’aho starts at hooker, Nepo Laulala at tighthead prop and Akira Ioane at blindside flanker.

New Zealand: J Barrett; Telea, Lienert-Brown, Havili, Clarke; B Barrett, Christie; De Groot, Taukei'aho, Laulala, Whitelock (capt), S Barrett, A Ioane, Papali'i, Savea

Replacements: Taylor, Bower, Newell, Vaa'i, Frizell, Perenara, Perofeta, R Ioane

  6. Return of Russell dominates headlinespublished at 13:50 GMT 13 November 2022

    Scotland v New Zealand (14:15)

The big team news for Scotland is the return of Finn Russell.

Many an eyebrow was raised when the Racing 92 fly-half was originally omitted from the squad, but he was called up after an injury to Adam Hastings and has been parachuted straight into the starting XV for his 64th cap.

Hooker Fraser Brown comes from nowhere for his first international appearance in almost two years and Sione Tuipulotu takes over from Cam Redpath in the number 12 jersey.

Scotland: Hogg; Graham, Harris, Tuipulotu, Van der Merwe; Russell, Price; Schoeman, Brown, Z Fagerson, R Gray, Gilchrist, Ritchie (capt), Watson, M Fagerson

Replacements: Ashman, Sutherland, Nel, J Gray, Dempsey, White, Kinghorn, Bennett

  7. Can Scotland end long wait against New Zealand?published at 13:46 GMT 13 November 2022

    Scotland v New Zealand (14:15)

New Zealand are back at Murrayfield for the first time in five years.

While the All Blacks are not the indomitable force they once were, the visitors start as strong favourites against Scotland, who have never managed a win in 31 attempts against today's opponents, going back 117 years.

It's been a pretty wretched year for Scotland all considered, but that would be quickly forgotten if the underdogs can have their day.
