News of mystery marker man Jeff Knox's round is coming in.

The Augusta member, whose role is to play alongside any solo pros on a Masters weekend, scored a two-under 70, beating playing partner Rory McIlroy by one stroke.

It has taken nine attempts but Lee Westwood has brought home his first birdie on a par-five at Augusta this year. He does the business on two and is on one-under. Might the year where no-one is asking the question, finally be the one when he reels in one of the big ones?

Gary Woodland has picked up some serious dents and dints round Amen Corner. He heads off the 12th green leaving two shots behind, sliding down to a tie for 10th.

Under the cover of Gary Woodlands' front-nine fireworks, Rory McIlroy has sneaked home in some style. The Northern Irishman birdied three of the last four holes to finish on a one under 71. He is three over for the tournament.

Is that good enough to give him a chance heading to Sunday? No it is not. Not with the scoring opportunities out there today and the number of players between him and the leader.

Oh Gary Woodland! The golfing gods are taking back their pound of flesh. He knows as soon as he has hit his tee shot on 12 that there is a good chance that it is going to get soggy.

Sure enough his ball rolls back off the front fringe and down into the depths.

Miguel Angel Jimenez drops back to level par, handing a shot back at 12. Ian Poulter is also in a bit of bother back to level par himself after a bogey on seven.

Brandt Snedeker has birdied the first to move to one under. No such luck for Lee Westwood, but a solid par will do.

Gary Woodland putting from off the green on the big, bad number 11 and he has not got hold of that at all, the fringe gripping the ball like sandpaper.

Long-hitting American Gary Woodland, who started the day at three-over par, has just torn up the front nine in a record-equalling 30 blows.

He joins the impressive company of Johnny Miller (third round, 1975), Greg Norman (fourth round, 1988), K.J. Choi (second round, 2004) and Phil Mickelson (fourth round, 2009) as the only players ever to have achieved the feat.

The bad news for Woodland is none of those players won the title in the year they produced their front-nine fireworks, with Mickelson the only Masters champion in their ranks.

Is that 'Spirit of Medinah' you are wearing today Mr Poulter? He is certainly smelling sweet through six with three birdies taking him to one under overall.

Scoring certainly looks a little easier today than on the first two rounds.

Justin Rose, after a bogey on two, eagles three and will also be rewarded with a pair of crystal goblets from the hosts as he moves to one over.
