  1. 'Livingston better at making it a battle'published at 14:33 GMT 29 January 2023

Former Rangers defender on BBC Sportsound

Livingston are better at making it a battle and winning second balls. The half chances Livi have had have come from their defensive players helping the ball into good areas - areas that are difficult for Hearts to defend.

The ball is bouncing about, no one is willing to take a touch and they're just hoofing it. At the moment, the game is not good to watch.

  2. 'Hearts need to find a tempo'published at 14:31 GMT 29 January 2023

    Former Hearts midfielder on Sportsound

It's not overly surprising the game has unfolded like this. We needed someone with a bit of quality to come into the game and that didn't happen.

The conditions aren't conducive to playing nice football and it's imperative that if you have any aspirations of gaining a foothold, you have to start to show for the ball and keep the tempo in the game. Hearts haven't been able to do that so far and that should be the message at half-time. They need to brave, both on and off the ball.

It's blustery and both sides are going at it hell for leather on the artificial surface.

Livingston have been getting men forward but the final pass has been lacking, while Hearts have struggled to get their front players on the ball enough, with too many aimless balls over the top.

All square at the interval and Yutaro Oda will still be shaking his head after that miss...

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

Lawrence Shankland lays it on a plate for Yutaro Oda but the Hearts striker somehow fails to get anything on the ball inside the six-yard box and a golden chance is gone.

A great, clipped cross from Shankland and all it needed was a touch.

Stephen Kelly can only drill in a weak shot on the turn as Livingston fail to capitalise on a fine run and cross from Steven Bradley.

Nathan Atkinson is booked for catching the toe of James Penrice as the home defender clears his lines.

Hopeful shouts for a penalty from the home fans as Stephen Kingsley cuts across Bruce Anderson to make sure the striker doesn't get a run in on goal from the right.

That is a huge blow for Hearts. Cammy Devlin is the one who has a bit of energy and looks like he wants to get on the ball.

Grant and Kiomourtzoglou haven't done well enough since they signed. I'd feel confident getting two midfielders from the SPFL who'd have had a better impact. They are two signings who have come in and not done well, but the side hasn't suffered. That's a testament to the rest of the recruitment.

  11. Grant on for Devlinpublished at 38 mins

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

Cammy Devlin trudges off to be replaced by Jorge Grant a few moments after taking a bang to the leg. The Hearts midfielder is walking freely, so let's hope it's just a precaution.

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

Stephen Kelly pops up the back post to meet a swinging cross from Nicky Devlin but tries to cushion it back across goal rather than having a go from close range. Hearts then hack the ball clear.

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

Orestis Kiomourtzoglou collects the ball near his own penalty box and is immediately set upon by two Livingston players. That just typifies the home side.

Zander Clark couldn't have wished for a better start to his Hearts career, four clean sheets in five games. A couple games he's come up with big saves. He's been an important signing for Hearts.

Craig Gordon, at the age he is, you looked behind him and thought god forbid he has an injury. Zander Clark has come in and twiddled his fingers and thumbs for the first half of the season. He's stepped in now and proved himself invaluable.

Nicky Devlin with a monster long throw-in, but the Hearts defence stands firm.

Livingston are having a decent spell but they can't get a glimpse of visiting goalkeeper Zander Clark.

Robbie Neilson is looking on from the stands once again as he completes a two-match touchline ban. Is that the Hearts manager's body double in beside him? No, it's sporting director Joe Savage.

End-to-end stuff now as Bruce Anderson has a swing and a miss from a James Penrice cut-back. Hearts are off on a counter-attack and it needs a timely intervention from Nicky Devlin to make sure Yutaro Oda doesn't get a free run at goal.

  18. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

Lawrence Shankland has his head in his hands after nodding over the top from a corner. Livingston can't afford to give the prolific striker any more room like that.

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

This looks menacing as Hearts break from defending the corner, but Stephen Humphrys takes a clumsy touch near halfway, allowing Stephane Omeonga to clear up.

    Livingston 0-0 Hearts

A nice flowing move from Livingston fizzles out as Steven Bradley's attempted cross is blocked by Stephen Kingsley.
