Here's something for Rangers fan to mull over. That is the seventh time in the league this season that their team have conceded first.

At least they have survived that penalty appeal.

It's a fantastic delivery, an in-swinger, just outside the six-yard area. Porteous rises superbly, times it magnificently, bullets the header in and it's a great start for Hibs

Allan McGregor rises to tip a superb drive from striker Elie Youan over the crossbar.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:01 GMT 15 December 2022

    Rangers 0-0 Hibernian

The whistle blows and the Michael Beale era at Ibrox has officially begun.

Is this the first stage before reaching his target of silverware by the end of the season, or are Lee Johnson's Hibs about to make their own fresh start to the season?

    The Premiership is back!

  14. Nisbet's welcome returnpublished at 20:00 GMT 15 December 2022

    Rangers v Hibernian (20:00)

Hibs manager Lee Johnson is delighted to have Kevin Nisbet back as a goal threat for his team after a lengthy injury lay-off.

"It's massively important," he tells BBC Radio Scotland. "We're not a club blessed with unbelievable resources. Your best players, you've got to keep fit. That's often the difference. To get any player back, particularly the quality of Kevin, is a big boost for us. He's been a long time out and if we can get 65-70 good minutes out of him I'll be delighted.

"I've got a lot of confidence we can get results. This is a big project. I knew that when I walked into the building and I know it now. Results have been disappointing but performances haven't always been terrible in those results. We've been done a couple of times."

  16. Home banker?published at 19:56 GMT 15 December 2022

    Rangers v Hibernian (20:00)

Michael Beale stressed last week that he wasn't taking charge of a "broken" team.

Indeed, Rangers face Hibs as strong favourites considering they have still only lost one of their last 46 home league games - to Celtic in April of last season.

What the new manager can't afford is any more slip-ups like October's draw at home to Livingston - a result that started the poor run that ended Giovanni van Bronckhorst's reign - if Rangers are to have any hope of catching their Old Firm rivals.

    John Collins
Former Hibs manager on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Watching Lee Johnson's team, he wants to build from the back. Results-wise they have been very poor. The pressure is on. The fans aren't happy. Hibs have too many players - 29 first-team players. You want a maximum of 20 outfield players on your training pitch every day

  18. Omens mixed for Hibspublished at 19:52 GMT 15 December 2022

    Rangers v Hibernian (20:00)

Hibs' last win over Rangers came in the League Cup semi-final 13 months ago as Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched from the Hampden stand waiting to officially succeed Steven Gerrard - Martin Boyle scoring a hat-trick.

They also came from behind twice to grab a 2-2 draw when the sides last met at Easter Road in August, when Rangers imploded following red cards for John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos.

However, Hibs have lost seven in a row at Ibrox and are eight without a win there since their last victory in February 2018.

  19. No margin for error for either sidepublished at 19:50 GMT 15 December 2022

    Rangers v Hibernian (20:00)

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Sport Scotland at Ibrox

The new Rangers manager has talked the talk over the past few weeks since his appointment but knows he can ill-afford any slip up tonight.

It is a fresh start, a change in approach, but Celtic's nine-point lead hangs heavily over this new era.

Rangers, quite simply, need to hit the ground running.

It is a similar story for Lee Johnson's Hibernian. They stuttered towards the World Cup break and need points in the bag quickly to avoid further negativity.

This is a significant test. They capitulated at Celtic Park earlier this season. They can't afford a similar display in what is likely to be a vociferous environment.
