    Arsenal 0-0 Coventry United

Coventry are bottom of the Women's Championship - but only due to their 10-point deduction for, briefly, going into liquidation.

They have picked up some decent results recently and look well drilled at the back. Arsenal have struggled to break them down thus far.

It's not been completely one-way traffic but most of the game has been played in the Coventry half and you suspect the underdogs would snap your hand off for penalties right now.

Arsenal have made nine changes - yet every one of their starters is a full international.

Coventry's first sign of attacking intent sees a through ball targeting Liv Fergusson.

The Gunners are spraying the ball around nicely here.

Coventry have settled after that let-off against a much-changed Gunners side.

Arsenal make a raft of changes for the visit of Coventry - nine in fact as only skipper Kim Little and Stina Blackstenius remain in the starting XI from the Gunners' league win at Brighton.

Eight of those league starters are among a strong bench though with only England defender Leah Williamson omitted from the squad entirely.

Coventry, meanwhile, make only one change from their goalless Championship draw at Durham as Grace Riglar replaces Natalie Haigh at the back.

  12. Route to the last eightpublished at 18:53 GMT 18 March 2022

Arsenal v Coventry United (19:00 GMT)

Championship side Coventry entered the FA Cup at the third-round stage and claimed an impressive 4-0 win at relegation rivals Watford.

They needed penalties to edge past fourth-tier Billericay Town in round four before a 4-2 victory at Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion in the last 16.

Arsenal came into the competition a round later and have beaten two second-tier sides already, narrowly seeing off London City Lionesses 1-0 before thrashing Liverpool 4-0 in round five.

Coventry United are having a far more challenging season than their illustrious opponents tonight, sitting bottom of the Championship, six points adrift of safety with just five games remaining.

That position, though, owes much to a 10-point deduction for going into liquidation, leaving the Midlands outfit just happy to still be playing at all.

Businessman Lewis Taylor stepped in to save the club at the 11th hour and he is delighted they have been rewarded with such a glamour tie.

"The players absolutely deserve it. The fact that they have dug in and carried on is just great. Now they are reaping the benefits," said Taylor - read more about United's story here.

It is six years since Arsenal enjoyed the most recent of their 14 FA Cup triumphs, edging out Chelsea 1-0 in the 2015-16 final.

New Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall is bidding to do what his predecessor Joe Montemurro failed and regain the cup - Arsenal reached two finals under the Australian but lost on both occasions to Chelsea in 2018 and 2021.

Arsenal currently top the Women's Super League and are bidding to achieve a 10th league and cup double - they performed that feat for four seasons running from 2005 to 2009 but last managed it in 2011.

Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of the first Women's FA Cup quarter-final as Arsenal and Coventry United do battle under the Friday night lights.

Even the term 'David v Goliath' probably fails to do the chasm between these clubs justice as the Gunners, 14-time FA Cup winners, host a Coventry side who were within days of going into liquidation three months ago.

However, they were rescued by a local businessman and will bid to pull off the biggest result in their history - and arguably the biggest shock in domestic women's football history - at Boreham Wood tonight.

Can they do it? Keep tuned to this page to find out.
