  1. Moyes praises Bowen after win over Norwichpublished at 08:15 GMT 13 January 2022

    West Ham 2-0 Norwich

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes praised his side after a "thoroughly deserved" 2-0 victory over Norwich, featuring a double from Jarrod Bowen.

David Moyes speaking to BBC Sport: "I felt we had lot of ball and lot of domination. We thoroughly deserved the victory but it wasn't easy.

"His [Jarrod Bowen's] all-round play is improving. He has been great for us and has got goals and assists in him."

On moving fourth: "We have to try and keep it going. I don't think being fourth this moment in time means an awful lot apart from showing we have been consistent.

"As long as we are around the mix and European places, that will be really good but if we can hang on the coat tails of teams above that is what we will try and do."

  2. Hammers take control with more intensitypublished at 08:10 GMT 13 January 2022

The win over Norwich was West Ham's third consecutive top-flight win and sees them move two points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand, and four above Tottenham, who are sixth and have played three games less.

After half an hour of the contest there was little to choose between either side, with the pre-match pyrotechnics arguably offering more excitement than the attacking play on show.

However, the Hammers clicked into gear shortly after, with West Ham boss David Moyes barking out instructions and urging his players to provide more intensity.

Jarrod Bowen produced the kind of performance that is only likely to underline his credentials as a prospective England player.

Bowen's tally of being directly involved in an impressive 16 goals in all competitions this term is the most by an English player operating in the top flight.

    Onto the Premier League now...

West Ham beat bottom club Norwich City to move above Arsenal into fourth in the table on Wednesday night.

Hammers forward Jarrod Bowen scored both goals and boss David Moyes said that he is "knocking on the door" for an England call-up.

The former Hull City player, who signed in a £20m-plus deal in January 2020, has eight goals in all competitions this season, including three in his last two appearances, and has a further eight assists in 2021-22.

Asked after his side's fourth straight league and cup win whether Bowen was ready for an England call, Moyes told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's Gareth [Southgate] who makes the decisions and Gareth has picked really well over the last few years.

"I think he is knocking on the door because he's beginning to score and is getting assists."

Liverpool v Arsenal (19:45 GMT - first leg)

So who will Chelsea face in the final?

Both Liverpool and Arsenal will be missing key players for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tonight.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are at the Africa Cup of Nations, as are Arsenal quartet Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.

Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Divock Origi (knee) remain absent for Liverpool.

Arsenal's Granit Xhaka (Covid-19) will be assessed, as will Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf).

    Tottenham Hotspur

Let's hear what the Spurs boss had to say after the game...

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte to Sky Sports: "At the end of the two games Chelsea deserved to reach the final in this competition, we have to be honest.

"In the second half we created many chances to score and we deserved a result better than losing 1-0 but if you have a judgement over the two games Chelsea deserved to win."

    What about Spurs?

Well if Antonio Conte needed to present Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy with any more evidence of the need for serious investment in his squad, a DVD of this Carabao Cup semi-final with Chelsea should seal the deal.

Conte's burning desire and ambition for success makes him a demanding manager - and there is nothing wrong with that given his stellar record with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

The Italian has been at pains to point out he did not sugar-coat his words about the squad he inherited from predecessors Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo when in talks with Levy and managing director Fabio Paratici.

If they were in any doubt as to what Conte's Spurs need before they can even think about working a way back into the Premier League elite, the manner in which they were brushed aside by Chelsea over two legs should act as the manager's Exhibit A.

  8. 'We were better in the first leg'published at 07:44 GMT 13 January 2022

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (agg 0-3)

    Chelsea

Let's hear a bit more from the Chelsea boss now...

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We're happy with the result. In the first half we were the better team and we deserved to be up.

"But we lost concentration and lost focus in the last 15 minutes of the first half and again in the second half. We were almost punished for lack of focus.

"We played at 90% and that's not our style - we shouldn't do this. We had to work hard and it was not our best performance - we were better in the first leg."

  9. 'We are confident'published at 07:39 GMT 13 January 2022

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (agg 0-3)

Talking of Tuchel, the Chelsea boss said he is "confident" defender Antonio Rudiger will sign a new contract to stay with the European champions.

The 28-year-old Germany international is able to speak to other clubs and is out of contract at the end of 2021-22.

Rudiger scored the only goal as Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday to seal a 3-0 aggregate win.

"Things are clear. Talks are going on and we are confident," said Tuchel.

"Nothing has changed. Everybody knows the situation, let's wait and see."

  10. Tuchel's magic touchpublished at 07:35 GMT 13 January 2022

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (agg 0-3)

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Chelsea are now in their third successive final under Thomas Tuchel since he arrived to succeed the sacked Frank Lampard almost a year ago.

He guided them to the FA Cup final last season, which Chelsea lost to Leicester City, before claiming the biggest European club prize of all by winning the Champions League against Manchester City in Porto.

The job of reaching the EFL Cup final was largely done in the first game at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea came out here with the sort of determination and attacking intent that made it clear they were determined to snuff out Spurs' hopes as quickly as possible.

Lukaku wasted one chance to do that but the early goal they desired came from Rudiger, which gave Spurs a task they never looked like accomplishing.

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (agg 0-3)

So let's start with the story splashed over the back pages this morning.

Chelsea eased into the Carabao Cup final as they closed out a comfortable semi-final win over Tottenham.

Spurs never seriously threatened to overturn Chelsea's two-goal first-leg advantage and Antonio Rudiger's bundled finish from Mason Mount's corner after 18 minutes effectively confirmed a Wembley date with either Arsenal or Liverpool.
