Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has "parted company" with Leeds United after a run of poor form that saw his side suffer several heavy defeats.

The 66-year-old Argentine, appointed in June 2018, leaves with the Whites two points above the relegation zone.

Under Bielsa, Leeds finished ninth last season on their return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

But Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Tottenham meant they had lost their past four games by an aggregate score of 17-2.

"This has been the toughest decision I have had to make during my tenure at Leeds United, taking into account all the success Marcelo has had at the club," said Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

"With Marcelo as our head coach, we had three incredible campaigns and the good times returned to Elland Road. He changed the culture of the club and brought a winning mentality to us all.

"However, I have to act in the best interest of the club and I believe a change is required now in order to secure our Premier League status. Recent results and performances have not met our expectations.

"We find ourselves in a precarious league position and I feel now is the right time to bring in a new head coach, in order to have an impact in the decisive stage of the season."

West Ham boss David Moyes makes two changes from the side that drew against Newcastle last weekend as Manuel Lanzini and Ben Johnson come in for Ryan Fredericks and Said Benrahma.

Ukrainian forward Andriy Yarmolenko has been given some time off in the wake of the conflict in his home country.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Johnson, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals, Antonio.

Subs: Areola, Vlasic, Noble, Benrahma, Diop, Kral, Oko-Flex, Alese, Perkins.

Wolves make five changes to the side that began their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Thursday. Nelson Semedo misses out with a hamstring injury and Rayan Ait-Nouri, Raul Jimenez, Daniel Podence and Joao Moutinho all drop to the bench.

That means Ki-Jana Hoever, Marcal, Francisco Trincao, Fabio Silva and Leander Dendoncker all start.

Wolves XI: Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Marcal, Neves, Dendoncker, Hoever, Trincao, Silva, Hwang.

Subs: Ruddy, Ait-Nouri, Neto, Jimenez, Podence, Boly, Jonny, Moutinho, Cundle.

    Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage says "people can dream" about where they will end up this season, with Champions League qualification an outside possibility.

“Maybe we can achieve more and maybe the people can dream about that, but what I can promise them is that we will continue to work in that way, not just for the dream, but for solid things," he said.

"Solid things is to play against West Ham the same way that we played against Arsenal, to create chances and score goals.

“The only thing I can promise is that we continue to improve and continue to come with personality and no fear to play in the away games and the home games.”

  6. 'We are pleased to be competing'published at 12:48 GMT 27 February 2022

West Ham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

    West Ham United

The Hammers have slipped to sixth in the Premier League table after taking just five points from their past five matches.

“It is really tough and difficult because you can see the standard of the teams who are very strong. From that point of view you have to play well," said Moyes.

“We are pleased to be competing, we are unbeaten in four matches and we will take that.

“We would like some more wins but overall we are still in a good place and, hopefully, we will still be there by the end of the season.”

West Ham have enjoyed a rare free week while Wolves head back to the capital having suffered a late defeat at Arsenal on Thursday.

“I am hoping Wolves are tired, but in football you never know,” he said. “We’ve had very few games where we had advantage over the opposition with time.

“Wolves have had a difficult week but that’s the way it’s going with the games called off during Covid.

“We have a really difficult week coming up with three games in six days, with Sunday, then going to Southampton in the FA Cup in midweek, then Liverpool next Saturday.”
