    West Ham United

West Ham are now five points off a Champions League spot but with a game in hand on fourth-placed Manchester United.

"We would like to be winning more games, but we are still in a good place and we hope we'll also be in a good place come the end of the season," said boss David Moyes.

Wolves are always tough to beat but they played on Thursday at Arsenal, which will help West Ham who have had a full week off to prepare for this.

The Hammers need a win too, after two draws in a row. Those weren't bad results in isolation but if they want to maintain their challenge for fourth place, then they can't afford to drop any more points this weekend.

    Prediction: 2-1

  3. 'Moyes has done very well'published at 13:50 GMT 27 February 2022

    Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has been speaking about his opposite number today, saying Hammers manager David Moyes has done very well this term.

“He’s done very well," he said. "I remember last season, they were in the middle of the table or even lower down, and after he came in, he changed everything. They did the second half of the season very well and this year, they are doing very good things.

“I remember they were in a good run in the period when we beat them, but we cannot forget what they are doing in the Premier League and what they have done in the Europa League.

“That’s why it’s so important we go there with the same mentality to play against this strong team with a big manager, who has a lot of experience.”

  6. Can Antonio and Souceck find goalscoring form?published at 13:44 GMT 27 February 2022

West Ham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes admits he would like more goals from Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek - Antonio has not found the net since New Year’s Day while Soucek, who struck 10 goals from midfield last season, has three this term.

Moyes has however been pleased to see Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and even defender Craig Dawson chip in.

“I would like more players to score more goals, but we’re only behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in goals scored this year,” said Moyes.

“Individual players, I’d like to see score more goals. We’d like Michail and Tomas to get more goals. But goals as a team, I think we’re doing OK in that department.”

The number of games is going to bite for West Ham with the intensity you are expected to play with. You look at the squad and can they cope with European competition? That was always going to be a challenge for a group of players with great desire.

Would there have been someone else that could come in at the top of the pitch to play that role. I don't think there is anybody out there at the moment that he [David Moyes] would trust to come in and play that role.

  9. 'I don’t want anyone to relax'published at 13:39 GMT 27 February 2022

West Ham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage: “For me, the most important thing is the way we are playing. With 40 points, we need to continue doing that. Then at the end of the season, we will see how many points we have. That’s why here, every game is important.

“Now we’re going to play against West Ham because they are in a good position also in the league, but which game is easy here? We lost on Thursday, but we need to go again with the same personality because it should be to continue to play in that way.

“That was our target since the beginning, and that’s why in the middle of February we now have these 40 points and we need to continue this way. I don’t want anyone to relax, I want more from my team and from my players.”

I get why Raul Jimenez is not playing. Just that little bit of time being left out can trigger the nerves and get the team going again.

As a striker you measure yourselves on the amount of goals you score but there is that other side as well of trying to produce for other players. It is great when that is recognised but you are judged on goals at the end of the season.

  12. Wolves urged to keep heads uppublished at 13:30 GMT 27 February 2022

Losing to Arsenal on Thursday must have stung; losing to such a late goal having led for so long, doubly so. That could take some of the energy out of Wolves’ winter surge in form that put them into European contention, but Bruno Lage spoke proudly after the game. He urged his team to keep their heads up and not to change their approach.

Lage understandably talked up his players, but although the outcome was rough, they were a little short of peak performance for the second game in a row. As the game wore on, their renowned defensive line came under increasing pressure, with the ranks further forward unable to give them enough relieving possession. For all that, they had a good share of the clear chances and could easily have been two goals ahead before Arsenal broke through.

Losing Nelson Semedo did not help – and the apparent nature of his injury would seem to rule him out of this game. But his absence at least gave Jonny his first half-hour of first-team football in nearly a year, and Pedro Neto also had useful time on the field. They should be sharper for those opportunities, and could be important senior figures for Wolves in the final third of the season.

There is still a great deal to gain. Wolves delivered one of their most polished performances of the season to beat West Ham in November, and if they complete a double, they will move above the Hammers while still having a game in hand.

Arsenal’s extra fixtures perhaps make them best-placed in the race for fourth, but Wolves still have a major chance of making this season much more than the transitional one that seemed likely when it began.

Very surprised that Raul Jimenez is not in the Wolves team. He is such a figurehead. he is someone I have been really impressed with him.

The injury knocked him back and before that he was one the top clubs would have been looking to take.

He is good at bringing people in, has that awareness and he can score a goal with both feet.

  14. 'We are all supporting Ukraine'published at 13:25 GMT 27 February 2022

West Ham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to Sky Sports: "The message from football is a great message. The message from the Premier League and the players is a great message.

"Football is so important through the world. The Premier league is screened in every country of the world so everything we can do to tell everyone this is wrong is really important.

"I am pleased the players are supporting Andriy Yarmolenko as we all are but more importantly that we are all supporting Ukraine."

  15. Yarmolenko given compassionate leavepublished at 13:21 GMT 27 February 2022

West Ham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

West Ham's Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko has been given compassionate leave by the club as he tries to deal with his country's invasion by Russia.

Hammers boss David Moyes said the 32-year-old, who has played more than 100 times for Ukraine, is "not in a good place at the moment so we have given him a few days off".

"It is really difficult for him and his family. I spoke to him yesterday and he was upset and rightly so. We hope everything goes well and all his family members keep safe."

On the pitch, Moyes welcomed West Ham's draw with Sevilla, who sit second in La Liga, in the last 16 of the Europa League.

"I think it's the pick of the round," he said. "It's a really tough game - but we want to test ourselves against the best.

"We've played well in Europe and we will take a big support to Seville. There will be more pressure on them than us because we are new to it."

Domestically, West Ham have dropped to sixth in the Premier League, four points off fourth place, after draws in their last two matches but Moyes is relaxed about their position.

"We would like to be winning more games, but we are still in a good place and we hope we'll also be in a good place come the end of the season," he added.

  16. Bielsa's refusal to adapt cost himpublished at 13:19 GMT 27 February 2022

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Leeds United's downward spiral into relegation trouble made it clear something had to change.

The one thing everyone knew would not be changing was manager Marcelo Bielsa's philosophy.

It meant that if Bielsa would not change, then he would have to be replaced, and so it has proved.

Bielsa's departure, a decision undoubtedly taken with huge reluctance, closes a chapter in which the enigmatic manager has made himself an iconic figure in West Yorkshire, not only restoring Leeds to the Premier League but also giving back respectability and credibility to this proud club.

The 66-year-old Argentine's stellar reputation among his peers and his status with adoring Leeds United fans is based on steadfast principles that football for the masses must be a front-foot thrill ride designed to deliver excitement and brighten lives.

When it works it is glorious spectacle, but when it falls apart it leads to Leeds' current predicament after the 4-0 loss at home to Tottenham that leaves them in 16th place in the table having conceded 60 goals, more than any other side in the division.

  18. Marsch of interest to Leedspublished at 13:14 GMT 27 February 2022

Former RB Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch has been of interest to Leeds for a while now.

However, there are other potential candidates, including former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, who is currently out of work and is known by Leeds director of football Victor Orta.

In addition Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan worked under Bielsa at Leeds. However, after guiding Huddersfield into third spot in the Championship, there are clear doubts as to whether he would be interested in switching back to Leeds in mid-season.
