If you draw a line down from Vestergaard's shoulder it would fall right in line with Waghorn's foot.

The goal at Newcastle last night was a yard offside but this - the goal has to stand.

Patrick O'Hara: VAR should only be used when everyone in the competition has it. it has shown in other games in the F A Cup goals were offside etc , but teams did not benefit from VAR, either everyone uses it or no one uses it when you are in the same competiton

Jackabout: Danny Murphy is clueless about VAR - clear and obvious doesn't come into it when it's offside, it's either offside or it's not and it was

  7. 'VAR wasn't brought in for this'published at 20:36 GMT 16 January 2019

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC One

We can't tell if that's offside at all, we've been looking at it for five or six minutes now. We are talking about millimetres. VAR wasn't brought in for this.

If they can't make a decision after watching a replay two or three times then it it is not obvious. Derby have been very hard done by.

VAR ruled out a goal for Derby, they were the better side in that half as the game wore on.

    Danny Murphy

And why did the referee decide to take the players all the way back for the kick-off? He could have waited where they were. I don't understand it.

  12. 'We'll be reviewing every goal'published at 20:32 GMT 16 January 2019

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

    Danny Murphy
Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One

I worry for the fact that for the tiny fractions we're talking about, we're going to be reviewing every goal.

The reason I went to football was for that moment the goal goes in, that buzz. The first time I was on the Kop and Liverpool scored it was one of the most memorable moments of my life.

What you going to do now? Think 'I won't celebrate yet until the VAR's been'?

I has to be used at the right time.

It remains goalless then. I'll show you that disallowed goal as soon as I can but in the meantime here's some liquid football from the Rams followed by a wild finish...

  16. 'That was tedious'published at 20:27 GMT 16 January 2019

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

    Danny Murphy
Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One

We were waiting around too long for that. It's not clear and obvious - it's half a shoe size.

That was tedious and not the right way we should be watching a football match. But you could argue the right decision has come in the end.

  17. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 40 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

    Ruled out by VAR!

My word that is tight. Martyn Waghorn's big toe is maybe offside as he played the ball into the path of Craig Bryson.

    Clear and obvious error?

It still looks pretty level to me...

Whatever - the goal does NOT stand...

  18. goal

GOAL - Southampton 0-1 Derbypublished at 39 mins

    Craig Bryson

    That is a cracking goal!

Pass and move, great movement, it had all the hallmarks of what Derby had shown so far. The ball is fizzed into the run of Martyn Waghorn by Mason Mount, Craig Bryson steps over the ball and Waghorn then finds Bryson running back into the area and he finishes low and hard!

    Fine goal.

    Hang on...

  19. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

A weary groan rings out from the stands as Shane Long takes a poor touch and ends a decent looking attack for the hosts. James Ward-Prowse moved through the gears and through the middle of the pitch but Long lost it.

Derby then attack and can't quite get the ball out of Jack Marriott's feet.

  20. Postpublished at 20:20 GMT 16 January 2019

    Southampton 0-0 Derby

    Danny Murphy
Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One

It was good play again by Derby. They've had a good 10 minutes and played some good football. Southampton are struggling to implement themselves.
