    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

One or two grumbles from the home support as Dani Alves ends a patient build-up by floatinga  cross too close to the Empoli keeper, who gathers comfortably. I suspect a few may be heading downstairs for half-time refreshment.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Another Juventus chance of sorts. Claudio Marchisio lofts a cross in from the right, and Mario Mandzukic rather gets in Stefano Struaro's way at the far post. Once they've untangled themselves and said their excuse-mes, Struaro feeds a pass back for Miralem Pjanic to drive not far wide from 20 yards. Lukasz Skorupski, in the Empoli goal, doesn't seem too worried, though.

Mario Mandzukic's first half, to this point, has been a succession of nearly moments. This time, the Juventus number 17 gets free at the far post to connect with a terrific outswinging cross from Gonzalo Higuain. He cannot quite stretch enough to divert it into the goal, though, and the ball bounces wide.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

The game has settled into a fascinating pattern. Empoli are struggling to create much, but are good at slowing the game down when in possession. Yet every so often, Juventus raise the pace, and that's when the champions look dangerous.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Great build up play from Juventus as Gonzalo Higuain plays Mario Mandzukic through. The Croatia striker seems to have all the time he wants to score, but all the time he wants isn't enough, as it turns out. Mandzukic tries to go round the keeper, who does just enough to hold him up, and the reinforcements arrive. By the time Vincent Laurini arrives to clear for the visitors, it's like a Black Friday shopping scrum out there. All that's missing is the giant flat screen TV.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Dani Alves is Juventus' best outlet at the moment. He throws over another cross that Mario Mandzukic, climbing at the far post, probably should do more with than head down and wide.

I'm asking for your greatest upsets, because I think Empoli winning tonight would be a huge shock. Will they do it?

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Better from Juventus. Dani Alves lofts in a great cross from the right with the outside of the boot, and Stefano Struaro is almost on to it. But Empoli centre-back Giuseppe Bellusci, on loan from Leeds, gets his body across the forward's path, and that gives keeper Lukaszz Skorupski a chance to fall on the ball.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Juventus' centre-backs get into a bit of a muddle and suddenly Omar El Kaddouri has a chance to run at goal. He's off-centre, and off-balance as he hits a 20-yard shot, which fades well wide of the near post. Juve boss Max Allegri prowls the touchline; their players might have reason to be wary of the half-time team talk if they carry on like this.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Still, Empoli are having a decent spell of possession after facing a fair degree of pressure. Jose Mauri, 30 yards out, has a chance to play a ball through to Manuel Pucciarelli if he weights it right. Unfortunately for him, it's over-hit, and the striker has no chance. Empoli seem to lack a clinical final pass. Perhaps that's why they have only scored 15 goals in Serie A all season.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Empoli pass the ball around patiently in the centre circle. There's plenty of time for Assane Diousse to pick out a team-mate, but he sends a 50-yard ball sailing towards the corner flag, which the charging full-back Manuel Pasqual wouldn't reach even if he was in a Ferrari. Which, I'd like to make clear, he isn't.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Juventus cannot crack the safe yet. They know the combination consists of four numbers, and they might even have figured one or two of them out, but they're just having to be patient. Claudio Marchisio has a go at goal from 25 yards, but it rolls wide.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

This is more the pattern I expected: Lots of Juventus possession, Empoli defending deep. Juan Cuadrado, looking to build another home attack, gets clattered by Omar El Kaddouri. Not quite so creative there from the Empoli number 10. As the resulting set-piece is swung in, Gonzalo Higuain shoves Manuel Pasqual, and the visitors have a free-kick and a chance to clear.

    Juventus 0-0 Empoli

Oh... How did that not go in? A lengthy spell of Juve passing meets an Empoli wall, but suddenly Juan Cuadrado has a chance to slide a pass across goal as Jose Mauri fails to clear, there's a deflection off Andrea Costa, and Mario Mandzukic, on the stretch at the far post, cannot turn in the opener.

Juve respond. Mario Mandzukic sets up a chance for Gonzalo Higuain, who prods a shot straight at keeper Lukasz Skorupski from around 10 yards. Then Dani Alves floats in a cross from the right, which Mandzukic heads over at the far post.

Now Omar El Kaddouri, playing in both the number 10 shirt and role, floats a cross in towards Guido Marilungo, who is always chasing after a bus he's never going to catch. The ball drifts away.

Juventus have not dropped a league point at home for 17 months. To say they are favourites would be an understatement. But as the late Cilla Black once sang: Life is full, full of suprises...
