Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba, subject to a work permit.

The 20-year-old DR Congo international agreed personal terms and completed his medical with the Premier League club.

Mbemba made 28 appearances for the Belgian side last season, who finished third in the league.

He is Newcastle's third deal of the summer after signing attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Angel Di Maria's proposed move from Manchester United to Paris St-Germain is "close" to being decided, says the French team's coach Laurent Blanc.

The Argentina midfielder has not joined United on their pre-season tour of America, and manager Louis van Gaal has said he "does not know why".

"There is a good possibility he could sign but there is nothing official," said Blanc after a defeat by Chelsea.

"We have to have patience a little longer. The outcome is very close."

Racing Post football journalist Mark Langdon, speaking on Talksport: “Wolfsburg are a very rich club in Germany. I think £60m would be about the lower end of what Wolfsburg would be looking for somebody who was the best player in the Bundesliga last season by a long way. 

"De Bruyne was absolutely fantastic in that number 10 role – he scored goals and created loads from everybody else. The one question about him – and it came from Jose Mourinho – is that he didn’t like the competition at Chelsea. He wanted to play every week.”

Arsenal are seeking their fourth Emirates Cup triumph in eight attempts...

It might be a friendly but Arsene Wenger is taking this seriously. Very seriously. The Gunners boss heads for the dressing room wearing a frown. Arsenal have been decent in phases but the Germans are more than holding their own.

Arsenal are saving their best for the last moments of the half.

Best move of the game almost results in a goal, a terrific cut back by Nacho Monreal is met by Mesut Ozil but his attempt flashes just wide.

What's going on? Another crunching challenge, this time Arsenal defender Gabriel is late on Vieirinha, external but somehow escapes a yellow.

Someone please remind Timm Klose this is a friendly.

The referee pulls out a yellow card from his top pocket and waves it in the direction of the Swiss defender after bringing down Jack Wilshere in full flight.

What's this? Nicklas Bendtner has the ball just outside the Arsenal area and is lining up a shot. Can the Dane score on his Emirates return?

He lets rip but Petr Cech gathers comfortably.That would have been awkward had that gone in.

The good news for Arsenal is that Theo Walcott has the ball in the back of the Wolfsburg net.

The bad news? He's miles off-side.

Mesut Ozil is the only player to survive Saturday's starting line-up as Arsene Wenger rotates his squad.

The German has been pretty quiet so far. Expect plenty of changes again at half-time.

No goals but a healthy Arsenal crowd are enjoying this. 

Chances at both ends, huge roars whenever Petr Cech is involved and even polite applause for Nicklas Bendtner.

The Gunners are starting to take control.

A huge kick by Petr Cech almost sets up a chance but Mesut Ozil's pass to Theo Walcott is poor.

Then a delicious pass by Jack Wilshere sets up Walcott, the England man caught dithering on the ball when he should have at least tested the keeper.

Big chance for Arsenal. 

Theo Walcott gets behind the Wolfsburg defence. There are red and white shirts lining up for the pass but the forward decides to have a pop himself...and the keeper blocks.

Arsene Wenger doesn't look happy that Walcott decided to go alone.

The German Cup winners are leading 6-0 in corners. One almost results in the opening goal, Nacho Monreal deflecting an effort that whistles just wide of Petr Cech's post.

Wolfsburg have had 62% possession. Arsenal have yet to get going. It's not looking at this stage as though the Gunners are going to repeat Saturday's 6-0 drubbing of Lyon.

Kevin De Bruyne hasn't really done too much so far. Little action in either goalmouth but Nicklas Bendtner has a chance to put the Germans ahead but is unable to make a decent connection.
