Meanwhile, in midfield, the Leinster champions are without the influential Ray Connellan, who limped off in the defeat at Galway. Shane Ormsby takes his place with Connellan, who was on standby, fit for the bench.

As for Monaghan, Gabriel Bannigan has made just one change to the team that breezed by another provincial winner in Roscommon of Connacht.

Aaron Carey comes into the half-forward line in place of Oisin McGorman.

Jack McCarron who hauled 0-7 in the 1-20 to 0-14 win over the Rossies last weekend, is again from the start.

    The Dubs have done it!

Dublin secure only their second victory at Croke Park this calendar year, but it is a huge one as they knock out last year's All-Ireland finalists after an epic extra-time battle.

Donegal looked down and out before Michael Murphy's dramatic hooter-time two-pointer forced extra-time, but Ger Brennan's side regrouped superbly and dominated much of the additional period.

Another championship heavyweight crashes out as Dublin book their place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals and a return to Croke Park next weekend.

What a game. What a finish. What a statement from the Dubs.

A frantic start to the second period of extra-time.

The final 10 minutes are under way at Croke Park and both sides are back to their full complement after the earlier black cards.

Donegal almost make the perfect start. A slick passing move carves Dublin open and Shea Malone weaves past his marker, but Evan Comerford produces a brilliant save to deny the substitute from close range, but the ball quickly falls to Ryan McHugh who converts from close range.

A huge moment with the Tir Chonaill men chasing the game.

It was all Dublin in the opening period of extra-time as the hosts adapted best to the reduced numbers and opened up a five-point lead.

However, the contest could take another twist in the second period with the four black-carded players due to return to the action.

Gavin Mulreany's late two-point free has kept Donegal firmly in touch, leaving Jim McGuinness' side with just a three-point deficit to overcome in the final 10 minutes.

Donegal finally get off the mark in extra-time.

Goalkeeper Gavin Mulreany ventures forward and lands a superb two-point score from the edge of the arc to cut the deficit.

The effort looked to be drifting wide but stayed inside the post at the last moment, giving the Tir Chonaill men renewed hope heading into the final 10 minutes.
