Cameron Meyer has finally mounted an attack and Ethan Hayter immediately goes after him.

Throughout this race, every time Meyer has pushed on, Hayter has been right on his wheel, not giving the Aussie an inch.

    Impressive. 41 laps to go.

The biggest of hugs and the biggest of smiles.

It was initially more a look of relief than celebration on Siobhan-Marie O’Connor’s face as she defended her 200m individual medley crown, but she quickly broke into a beaming smile as team-mate Aimee Willmott swam over three lanes to hug her.

Willmott was fourth, but still riding the high of her 400m individual medley success on the opening night.

Scotland’s Hannah Miley was sixth and from a personal point of view I really hope it’s not the last time we see the three-time Olympian in an individual final. She’s set to decide her long-term future after the Games.

After her victory, Siobhan-Marie O'Connor spoke to BBC Sport's Sharron Davies, who won the same discipline in 1978: "The time wasn't my best but it's such an amazing feeling. I've really struggled the last 18 months and I wanted to come here and get my confidence back.

"It's hard racing the Aussies on their home soil. I wanted to focus on the medley and I'm really happy with that."
