Aintree is incredibly special but I am biased. It is very different to Cheltenham - that is almost a worldwide event and a tourist attraction at times.

This place has always been very special to me and my family and I'm a huge supporter. It is thriving and I absolutely adore it. If you go back a certain amount of time, it has struggled at certain times, and the city economically at times. It is a wonderful time now and the whole city supports it.

It is the pinnacle to have someone with a chance in the Grand National.

  4. 'Two would be great, three would be grand'published at 15:26 BST 11 April

    Randox Grand National 4m 2½f (16:00 BST)

Jockey Patrick Mullins, who is riding Grangeclare West in the Grand National, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Willie Mullins: "He is very relaxed, he is a very good delegator. Once he gets to a day like today, it is over to the jockeys, he will be having a drink somewhere enjoying himself. Who knows, it could be anything as long as it is free.

"To win two, I've seen Ruby do it. Not many people win a Grand National, but very few people have won two. To join the likes of Ruby Walsh, that is motivation.

"It was about two or three weeks after the race, I just thought I can hopefully win it again with Nick Rockett. But look, it wasn't to be. Leighton Aspinall won it two years in a row with two different horses, so I've got a few more goes at it. Two would be great, three would be grand."

There is so much volatility on this race, everyone wants to have a bet on the Grand National. I Am Maximus, winner of this race two years ago, is likely to go off as the favourite. Panic Attack is really well-backed. Grangeclare West for Willie Mullins is probably going to be third-favourite and the two best-backed outsiders today are Twig and also one of Gordon Elliott's runners, Firefox.

  6. 'Grangeclare West could be the one to improve on last year'published at 15:22 BST 11 April

    Charlie Poste
Welsh Grand National winning jockey on BBC Radio 5 Live

The mistake at the last fence last year did have a big impact on Grangeclare West and he's had a really good prep.

The addition of Patrick Mullins could be a positive having won it last year and if there is a horse from last year, that finished in the places and could go on and win this year, I think Grangeclare West is the one.

That was an incredible run from Home By The Lee.

He took the lead with around seven hurdles to go and never lost it.

A 5-1 winner but my word did he make that look easy.

The final race before this year's Randox Grand National is the Grade 1 Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle.

It was at Aintree 12 months ago where the Gordon Elliott-trained Honesty Policy completed a hat-trick of successive wins.

Jockey Mark Walsh will hope to emulate that success 12 months on, although favourite Honesty Policy is yet to pick up a win this season.

Jingko Blue goes into this off the back of a big win at Cheltenham last month and jockey James Bowen will fancy its chances of going back-to-back in two of the year's biggest meets.

  18. 'A dream come true and I just can't wait'published at 14:57 BST 11 April

    Randox Grand National 4m 2½f (16:00 BST)

More from Top Of The Bill jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I certainly won’t feel it, is just a couple of strands in a locket. You could perhaps say I can feel the legacy and there is definitely a sense of pride coming here I suppose.

"I said to journalists the other day, it is more of being a great grandfather than being a racehorse trainer. We probably didn’t really realise quite the feat he’d done when we were younger, it was more him taking us to football practice of messing around on the ponies in the garden and so on. Only good memories and just do him proud.

"My first standout memory would be Ballabriggs winning it. The first one I can probably memory would be Mon Mome. 100-1 winner. It’s probably a slightly classier race now and you don’t get those prices as often now, but you’ve got to be in it to win it. It’s a dream come true and I just can’t wait."

  19. 'It is magic, I am still pinching myself'published at 14:53 BST 11 April

    Randox Grand National 4m 2½f (16:00 BST)

Top Of The Bill jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s magic, I’m still pinching myself. I just want to get to four o’clock now and get on with it.

"I’ve still got the tractor run and a pound or two to drop but that fairly standard routine, nothing out of the ordinary. I just want to get on with it."

On his grandfather Ginger McCain: "100%. I will definitely give him a glance when I am walking down the steps at 10 to four. It was the same walking the track towards the water jump, you give red a glance as well because that was his resting place but hopefully, we do him proud today and giving a good run."

On Red Rum: "It’s been well-documented that I was have a bit of his mane in my glove. I don’t want people thinking I’m really superstitious or anything, it’s just tradition. He will be with me anyway and hopefully, he will bring me a bit of luck."

You can’t have Blackmore’s without having a Red Rum bar!

Like all sporting events, the Grand National has created legends but are there any bigger than the only horse to win this race on three separate occasions?

    Maybe not…
