A dogleg at the 10th at Royal Birkdale and Tommy Fleetwood manages to follow up a 230-yard tee shot with a drive on to the green.

Fleetwood is just under 50 feet from the flag so still has work to do.

Jon Rahm looks to have the best position for a birdie.

Robert MacIntyre, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:

"Really disciplined and patience. From gameplan, to acceptance.

"I just thought it was a really solid round of golf - nothing flash. Holed that lovely putt on the 17th. A real test of accepting that this was a tough day and trying to pick up as many shots as we could on those par fives.

"I think it is a great spot. I think I'm in a great position going into the weekend. Keep doing more of the same and accept what comes."

  3. Bogey at the last for Brownpublished at 17:56 BST 17 July

    Im -2 (72), Brown -3 (71)

Dan Brown drops a shot at the difficult 18th and he'll sign for a one-over-par round of 71, leaving him three under for the tournament and five shots off the lead.

Playing partner Im Sung-jae struggled on the back nine and reaches the halfway mark at two under after a 72 today.

  4. Birdie chance slips by for Schefflerpublished at 17:55 BST 17 July

    Scheffler -3, Hatton -1, DeChambeau -4 (10)

You can't really fault Scottie Scheffler too much in terms of his approach play today.

Eight out of 10 for greens in regulation during his second round so far and another fine second shot means the defending Open champion has nine feet left for birdie at the 10th.

But the putter is stone cold right now. A breaking putt breaks too much.

At three under, though, he's still well in contention.

Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton secure two-putt pars from long range.

I'm sure any rivalry between the Fitzpatricks is of the friendly variety but Alex currently holds the bragging rights after shooting 67 today.

He's finished round two, some eight shots ahead of brother Matt, while Alex's performance also demonstrates his development in recent times.

On his only previous appearance at the Open in 2023, he was two over par after two rounds. Today, he is four under and within striking distance of the leaders heading into the weekend.

  6. 'Lookin' good out there Tommy 'published at 17:52 BST 17 July

    Fleetwood -2, Rahm -2, Spieth +4 (9)

Tiger Woods has offered his support for Tommy Fleetwood on X., external

A short, but sweet message from the three-time Open champion: "Lookin' good out there Tommy Fleetwood."

  7. Pars all roundpublished at 17:52 BST 17 July

    Fleetwood -2, Rahm -2, Spieth +4 (9)

Tommy Fleetwood flexes his body in frustation as his birdie putt at the ninth trickles just wide of the hole.

Pars for Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm as well as the trio prepare to make the turn.

With the featured groups this afternoon hitting the turn, the prime real estate around the greens is often occupied so spectators must get creative.

Luckily, Royal Birkdale has plenty of humps and hills to catch a glimpse of play on.

A popular spot is behind the 13th green with views of most of the course, including the ninth and 10th greens.

The smells wafting over from the taco truck in the fan village nearby also make it very pleasant experience. Extra salsa for me, please.

    Fleetwood -2, Rahm -2, Spieth +4 (8)

Tommy Fleetwood gets a hearty round of applause after navigating his way out of the rough and on to the green at the par-four ninth.

He's 17 feet from the green and has an outside chance of a birdie.

  13. Rose finds another birdiepublished at 17:39 BST 17 July

    Rose +3 (10)

Justin Rose is giving himself every chance of making the cut, which is currently at one over par.

He follows a birdie at the eighth by holing a long putt at the 10th to get to three over.

  14. Eagle for Brownpublished at 17:37 BST 17 July

That's one way to claw your way back up the leaderboard!

Dan Brown takes full advantage of the par-five 17th, which is playing as the easiest hole on the course, and sinks an eight-footer for eagle.

A par down the last for a 70 for the Englishman.

  15. Scheffler and DeChambeau one under for front ninepublished at 17:35 BST 17 July

    Scheffler -3, Hatton -1, DeChambeau -4 (9)

Bryson DeChambeau plays a sensational chip from the right side of the green which he judges to perfection, leaving a tap in for a three.

Scottie Scheffler's approach was just as good, giving himself an eight-footer for birdie, but the putt doesn't drop.

Tyrrell Hatton's birdie effort from long range narrowly slides by the hole. Hatton raises his arms to the sky because that one looked in all the way.

  16. 'Fleetwood has got to stay patient'published at 17:35 BST 17 July

That was a disappointing one from Tommy Fleetwood.

A tricky tee shot, finding that bunker and he is taking his medicine. A bit of a mistake downwind. He is playing solid golf, and he has got to stay patient.

Jon Rahm needs to get something going, so that was a nice start coming up to these holes where he can get a birdie.

  17. Bogey for Fleetwoodpublished at 17:34 BST 17 July

    Fleetwood -2, Rahm -2, Spieth +4 (8)

Tommy Fleetwood finds the sand with his tee shot at the eighth and it ends up taking him an extra shot to get up to the green.

The Englishman hits a good approach shot on to the green but misses a chance to save par from just over nine feet and taps in for a bogey.

Jon Rahm joins Fleetwood at two under with a birdie.

  18. Closing bogeys for Fitzpatrick and MacIntyrepublished at 17:33 BST 17 July

Bob MacIntyre is out with what looks like a hybrid on 18 but it's heading for trouble. He misses the green right and his ball scuttles down from the rough and stops perilously close to the bunker.

The Scot chips over the bunker we saw Sam Burns hole out from earlier. He picks it cleanly, gets some check and leaves himself six feet for a closing par.

Ah, he's missed it. That's a shame after that brilliant eagle on 17.

After his wild drive, Alex Fitzpatrick flies the green with his second. He judges his chip well but leaves an awkward downhill nine-footer for par.

Can he knock it in and card a superb bogey-free 66? Not quite. Disappointing finish but a fine round from the Englishman and he, like MacIntyre, is well placed at the halfway mark.

Rickie Fowler matches MacIntyre's 69 to finish level so the American will make the cut.

In fact, Bryson DeChambeau is to the right of the green and his ball is lying quite nicely.

Definite chance to get up and down for birdie.

Justin Rose has arrived to the ninth green. He walked on to huge applause and took a couple of moments to thank the fans, tipping his hat a couple of times. It might not be another Birkdale fairytale, but he’s soaking it in.

He's going to need to pick up at least three shots on the back nine - what are the odds of him repeating his chip-in birdie at 18 in the final round of the 1998 Open?!

Sarah and the TV team will be presenting highlights from 21:00 BST that you can watch on BBC2, BBC iPlayer, or on the BBC Sport website and app (UK only).
