    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +3, Woodland -2 (11)

Might need a swear box in place at Amen Corner.

First Robert MacIntyre drags his tee shot well wide of the pin on the short 12th and jabs his iron into the ground in frustration before uttering a few choice words.

Gary Woodland, meanwhile, finds the sand with his.

Scottie Scheffler is last to go and even the world number one is chuntering after landing it just off the green.

    DeChambeau +4 (76)

Bryson DeChambeau's post-round interviews opened with questions about his bunker troubles on the 11th and the 5-iron he fabricated himself with a 3D printer:

"The bunker was softer than I anticipated. The ball flew 12 yards farther than I wanted it to. I had a good shot.

"It was great on seven [the five iron]. Hit a good second shot. Wind didn't hit it off the left. Irons are still something I have to work on? I mean, I only hit it once today.

"[It] Prints in eight hours. Machines, they're three or four hours. Then you have to cut grooves in it and do a bunch of other stuff. So you can have something within a day and a half. It has to be USGA-conforming. There's a whole process you have to go through."

    Rai -2 (14)

After his troubles on the 11th and 12th holes Aaron Rai is back in business on the 13th with a wonderful approach that tees him up nicely for a birdie.

With a par secured on the 14th, the Englishman is just three off the lead.

  4. Pars are good on 12published at 21:58 BST 9 April

    Thomas -1 (12)

The experienced players don't go flag-hunting on the short 12th. It's only 150 yards, but danger is everywhere.

The line is over the left edge of the bunker, middle of the green. Every round. It's boring. But effective.

Justin Thomas has been round Augusta a few times. He knows where to go. He's got a 25-footer for birdie. He needs two putts. But par is a fine score. And he wanders up to the 13th tee.

  5. Par for Rosepublished at 21:53 BST 9 April

    Spieth, -2 Rose -3, Koepka +1 (12)

Justin Rose is stone faced as a hopeful birdie chance on the 12th slides by the hole. He slides in the par with relative ease.

Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koekpa also bag themselves a par at Amen Corner.

  6. Bogey for Thomaspublished at 21:48 BST 9 April

    Thomas -1 (11)

A dropped shot for two-time major champion Justin Thomas on the long par-four 11th as he enters Amen Corner for the first time this week.

He's short of the green with his second and elects to chip his third from a couple of feet shy of the putting surface. It's a 7/10 chip that leaves him an eight-footer for par and that's just too much to cope with.

  7. Postpublished at 21:43 BST 9 April

    Spieth -2, Rose -3, Koepka +1 (11)

Justin Rose at Amen Corner and his tee shot leaves him with a 20-footer for a birdie.

Jordan Spieth has got a bit of momentum after birdies on the eighth and ninth. Can he get himself in contention?

  8. Postpublished at 21:42 BST 9 April

    Scott E (15)

Adam Scott can't save his par on the 15th but then lasers an iron towards the pin on the 16th and will have a chance to bounce back with a birdie.

  9. What make the Masters so special?published at 21:40 BST 9 April

    More than the Score

We all know the Masters is iconic. But what is it that really makes the youngest of the four majors stand out from the rest?

In the More Than The Score podcast, BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter and venerable American writer Alex Miceli discuss the long-standing traditions and quirks which have turned the Masters into an unmissable part of golfing culture.

Listen here to an episode recorded from the hallowed grounds of Augusta National.

  10. Postpublished at 21:29 BST 9 April

    Scott -1 (14)

Adam Scott is flying with a birdie on the 12th and an eagle on the 13th which is set up by a stunning approach.

But his iron into the 15th doesn't skip on or stick and his ball trundles off the green and down the front edge into the water. The Australian, who won here 13 years ago can't believe his luck and places his hands on his knees before wandering off to the drop zone.

  11. Scheffler tees off at 10thpublished at 21:29 BST 9 April

    Scheffler -3, MacIntyre +3, Woodland -3 (9)

Scottie Scheffler gives the patrons a nod of appreciation as he rounds off the front nine with a par.

The world number is two shots off the lead and will have a chance to attack the back nine now.

    McIlroy -5 (67)

Defending champion Rory McIlroy speaking to Sky Sports:

"I thought I would feel different [with the weight off his shoulders] but then I put my tee in the ground and I felt the same nerves I always feel.

"It's the first major of the year and you want to get off to a good start. I feel like I settled into the round really nicely and quickly. There is a certain freedom, if I hit into the trees I'll be like, 'we'll figure it out'.

"Wherever I hit it on this golf course, I feel like I've seen it all over the past 18 years so I feel like I can figure it out, make it to the front of the green, make a par and move on and I did that well on the front nine today. I started to find my game a bit on the back.

"I swung freely even when I was missing tee shots on the front nine; I still kept swinging, I didn't get tentative. I kept swinging away and just hoping that I'd find it - and I did, I strung some good swings together from the eighth hole and played some good stuff from there."

On the possibility of becoming the fourth player to go back-to-back:

"It's a great start, there's a long way to go. I'm right in the tournament. It's a lot better than start from seven behind going into the second round like last year.

"I'm not getting ahead of myself but I'm feeling good with where I'm at."

  14. Willett gets feet wetpublished at 21:16 BST 9 April

    Willett +1 (15)

Surely not? The 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett is playing catch up on the par-five 15th after finding the trees off the tee.

He just has to negotiate the tributary to Rae's Creek that winds in front of the raised green, but gets his feet wet with his fourth shot and all of a sudden turns a promising round into something else with a double.

Have Your Say on The Masters

Re: “who should give Rory his green jacket if he wins again” Patrick Cantlay and caddy surely? One sleeve each?

Ben from Tenerife airport (with much sunburn)

Of course! Great shout Ben, I'd forgotten all about that, imagine that...

If Rory wins surely there is only one man to hand him the green jacket, a keen golfer who even owns golf courses and holds the most prominent position in the land, after all he gave Chelsea a trophy once.

    Dave from Sheffield

No idea who you could be talking about Dave?

  16. Scheffler squanders birdie chancepublished at 21:11 BST 9 April

    Scheffler -3, MacIntyre +1, Woodland -3 (8)

Scottie Scheffler is tutting to himself.

A chance to go four under at the eighth goes begging after a seven-foot putt skims the edge of the hole.

Gary Woodland takes his chance, though, from a few feet further away to join his fellow American at three under.

  17. Rahm saves parpublished at 21:09 BST 9 April

    Rahm +4, Gotterup E, Aberg E (10)

"How is that possible?" says Jon Rahm as his birdie putt on the 10th comes up way short.

The way the Spaniard has been putting today, you would not fancy him here but he nails a 10 footer.

He needed that big time and he makes ground up on his playing partners, Ludvig Aberg and Chris Gotterup who both take bogeys.

  18. Rai slips up at Amen Cornerpublished at 21:07 BST 9 April

    Rai -1 (12)

Amen Corner is taking its toll on Aaron Rai.

The Englishman puts his hands to his head after sliding a par-putt left on the 11th and then lips out on the 12th.

  19. 'Just shows how tough it is'published at 21:06 BST 9 April

    Fleetwood (71)

Tommy Fleetwood speaking after going four under on the front nine but three over on the back nine:

"Obviously feels disappointing after having such a good start. Frustrated with how I finished, but at the same time, I could have shot level par on the front without doing anything different and I could have shot level par on the back without doing anything different.

"Didn't really hit many bad golf shots. Missed a couple putts. Still, didn't do that much wrong to make a few bogeys. Just shows how tough it is."

On if this could be one of the toughest Masters he's played in:

"Potentially, yeah. We'll see. They can do whatever they want with the golf course, can't they? That's the beauty of it. I think you never quite know what you're going to get out here until you hit into the first green.

"For sure they're having absolutely perfect conditions to make it as firm and fast as they want. It's up to them what they want to do with it. Yeah, it's an amazing test, and as a major and as the Masters should be I guess."

  20. McIlroy in good companypublished at 21:05 BST 9 April

    McIlroy -5 (67)

Great stat from Justin Ray at The Athletic:

Rory McIlroy is only the sixth defending Masters champion to open the week with 67 or better.

    1956 Cary Middlecoff - 67 (finished 3rd)

    1962 Gary Player - 67 (2nd)

    1976 Jack Nicklaus - 67 (T-3)

    1995 Jose Maria Olazabal - 66 (T-14)

    2016 Jordan Spieth - 66 (T-2)

    2026 Rory McIlroy – 67 (?)
